Dunalastair
My latest small scale (1:148) diorama using 3D printed parts represents the original EL&GR terminus at North Leith (aka Citadel) in late LNER days, just before closure to passenger services. https://oldleith.org/photolibrary/ I have not included the railway side, but I have used an Oxford diecast N gauge tram in Edinburgh Corporation colours. The base is 300mm long and about 150mm wide. Though not clear in the photograph above, from an early date, the central part of the building was a pub, probably a rough establishment considering its proximity to the docks just across the road. The model is based on photographs from the web, both historic and modern, as the building survives in restored (and cleaned!) re-use, though the railway has long gone and much of the route is now a walkway. NLS has a good selection of large scale maps from the earliest days e.g. https://maps.nls.uk/view/74415404 The tramway setts were a challenge, and I should probably tone them down with another grey wash. 13 2
Dunalastair
I had not seen this image until after I posted my diorama above. A 1978 model of North Leith which appeared as RoM in the Modeller, This is very much the opposite view to what I represented. Edit : I probably had a copy of that RM before the archive went into the recycling earlier this year. https://unnycoombelala.blogspot.com/2023/09/north-leith.html Whereas this is what I was looking for - a 1932 (reportedly) view of the business end of North Leith / Citadel station. Helps put the model above into context. https://www.flickr.com/photos/127340508@N05/16582969053/in/photostream/ Edited August 23, 2024 by Dunalastair

RMweb Premium Dava Posted September 6, 2024 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 6, 2024 North Leith is a really interesting model for a small urban terminus layout. I considered it in Gauge 0 but smaller scales have advantages. How about TT-120? A line crossed the Commerce Street into the docks for freight traffic. See map. https://images.app.goo.gl/9PPyc4MydTwUfm4s9
RMweb Premium Dava Posted September 6, 2024 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 6, 2024 This view shows the line to the docks straight ahead, the passenger platforms to the right. It means a layout can have through freight movements to docks off-scene and shunting, as well as passenger or NPCS movements. https://images.app.goo.gl/PgMRMnG3ttGwcRV77
DOCJACOB
Would make interesting model. Interesting & compact track work. Would need bit of laxity/liberty regarding workings as it was specials only, after loss of passenger services in 1947, till 1967. Much to my surprise I thought last special was hauled by J36 but lasted to diesel (guessing railcar) era.
