binesrail
Right, here we go again! As most of you know i am the builder of the "Stoney Cross" layout, this was my test layout, now time for the proper one! Over the last year ive experimented with lots of diffrent mertherds of model making with my layout "stoney Cross" which is now getting to the stage where im happy with how it looks and need a new layout to keep me busy over the next year or so The new layout "Whitefield Lane" will be set in the 1959-1968 period, just so i can run most of my loco's and rolling stock. There will be a single platform of about two coaches long with no run round so im going to have to make a small isolated section for locos to move into at the end of the platform so another loco can come in from behind (hehe dirty thought ) and then take the train back out. On the other side of the platform there will be two small sidings with a headshunt for moving wagons around and to make things more interesting for the operator and anyone watching. The layout will hope fully have a very North Devon feel about it and as i live in north devon this should not be difficult. I have attached two plans below one of the track plan and the other of the wireing plan. Sorry about the bad spelling! binesrail
Layed out some track i have lying around on the bored to see how it sizes up. Im quite happy with how it looks now all i need is some cork and some point motors and off we go! Speak soons and Happy modeling Chris

binesrail
Hello again all, Ive been busy busy this evening working on the bace boreds legs and the mountings they slot into. Ive chosen to just make some slots for the legs to go into without any clips or bolts holding them in. The up side of doing this is that the legs are very quick and easy to take off, the down side however is that the layout is not quite as stable as i would like but it seems to be ok. All i need to do to finnish the legs off is to add some ajustable feet, as the floors in my house are not exactly flat because the floor boreds are over 100 years old and a bit wobily! Speak soons and happy modeling. p.s. dont forget to come to the Barnstaple Model Railway Exhibition tomorow! Chris
RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted July 30, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 30, 2010 Hi Chris, A good start. The socket leg method works for me (have a look at Orchard Road at the Barnstaple show). You will need a diagonal cross brace between the two pairs of legs and will help to stabilise the legs. I use a slightly different method on OR (again have a look at the show). This is the first time ive weathered a loco and its come out ok BUT that was after hours of reading how its done and working very closly off of a photograph of the real thing. ive only used about 3 or 4 colours and a bit of PVA glue, the coal ive added is actuly burned matches and the ash on the front, yep, uve guessed it its real ash, paper ash that is. Hope you like the photos, speak soon and happy modeling! Chris
RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted August 4, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 4, 2010 Chris, Does the loco still run??? Very heavy weathering on that one - you ought to bring that to the club on Tuesday. Looks like something that you would find at Barry Yard!!! Good work rate on the layout, though.

binesrail
just a quick message to say i will not be working on the layout that much now over the next few weeks due to a broken point which is in a place that means i have to take up most of the track all around it to replace it, i have lost all enthuseasum with this layout so now im just gona sit here drink cider and be a miserable git. chris
34010-34005
Chris, Don't give up! these things are meant to try us. I had twice measured and test fitted the layout boards in the bedroom and built them in the garage. As you are aware I'm doing the baseboard cupboards below in the bedroom. I have the track approx 600mm from the floor (Recliner chair viewing height) and now with the baseboards on they don't fit, So a lot of hassle to shave off the end. Thank goodness the track has NOT yet been laid. (Well loosely) around the room. Although the station area has it's tracks pinned down, It to has to have the track lifted for corking, electrics etc. But it's nice to see my station area filled with stock! Anyway, must get going Missus wants the bed back in before dark and I've got a lot to do!! Happy building. Chris

Chris Hi Chris, I'm glad that I can help - this is one of the great things about RMWeb - a solution to a problem / glich is just a message away! Good to hear that the layout is back on 'track' (excuse the pun) and look forward to seeing progress. All you need to do now is order your ballast - the C&L does look very good on Torrington, so should work for you as well.

binesrail
Hi all, not done an up-date for a while, so here is just a little one for now and i will give a full up-date with pics later. I got given a BR 9F a few years ago and it didnt work so i took it to the local model shop and it was fixed in 30 mins, shows how much i know about electeronics! give me a 16mm loco or a real 12 inches to the foot engine and i will fix it, but 00 gauge i just dont get Ive also painted all the rails and buffer stops, i shall put some pics up later on today so watch this space. binesrail
hello again, Just finnished scratch building the platform for the layout, im happy with it but its not the best model in the world it needs painting and finnishing with some fences and seats and that sort of stuff. below are some pics of my 9f (a little big for the layout dont you think? ) and the new platform. let me know what you think... Speak soon and happy modelling. Chris
binesrail
just a quick up-date tonight, i have made a start on the background i did try to make them first with plywood but i did not like it and it seemed a bit flimsy to me so i went to the local xdiy shop and bought a nice thin pice of MDF this to me seems alot stronger and a better material to work with. i shall make a start on painting the background tomorow and then its on to the buildings, just a quick note to say i did not like the platform i made in the end and so chucked it out for the seaguls! speak soons and happy modelling! binesrail
just to say i have resqued the platform from the seaguls and am working on it again i just realised that if i put some filler in the small gaps it may look better, so ive done that now and yes its alot better B) p.s. i will put up some pics of the background later on today so watch this space!
