Regional Boy
Hi, I've finaly got round to building these kits. The instructions give some advice as to which colours to use for the bulk of the wagon but not the hood. Could anyone give me an idea of which colour they used for this part. Looking at photos of the prototype cant decide whether its silver/white or somewhere in between. Many thanks John
Glorious NSE
I would use white for the hood - the main body of the wagon is silver ex-works, but seems to quickly weather to an all-over brake dust brown.

I don't like using white as nothing stays white for long on the real thing. Happy modelling, Steven B.

Regional Boy
Thank all for you for advice I will go with that then, I'm using the Humbol matt 29 for the body as suggested by the instructions which should be ok once it is dry. Thanks for posting up the picture, as well as the colours, I have been struggling to figure how the bogies go together-where exactly the cross beams fit, Paul your picture gives me a clue. Thanks. 66C
Hi John I used Humbrol 26 - Khaki. Don't forget the large numbers on top of the covers! Most modellers don't do them. The best match I could find for the font was Atrox - I found it on the web and downloaded it. Regards
Glorious NSE
There isn't a number on all of them, i'd suggest not doing it unless you know your prototype has one...

Hi Just one thing though, my bogies arn't the ones supplied with the kit they are from the 2mm Scale Association as I plan to run this on my yet to be built 2mm layout. Regional Boy
Hi all, same kits new question. Im struggling with the bogies, well bogies are together but intend use kadees and having trouble finding a way of attatching at the right height. I have to say I am not 100% sure I have put them together correctly. Any advice? I was also wondering does anyone know what bogies these are and have they been used on any other r-t-r models. I've tried looking on the internet and whilst lots of pictures no specific info. None of my other stock has bogies that look close. As always thanks in advance for any advice cheers John
mike knowles
With regard to painting, on the S Kits version I built (in OO) I followed prototype and initially painted it in silver and then applied a thin coat of brake dust over it (all using an airbrush). This allowed the initial silver finish to just show through in some areas (particularly if the brake dust colour was wiped away while still wet on areas that would have been more protected. Mark Saunders
There is one of the current fleet 5500xx in DRS blue but not sure which one. Mark Saunders

As always thanks in advance for any advice cheers John It would help us if you told us which kit and scale you were working in and what the problem is that makes you think you've built your bogies wrongly. If the TPM kit, the the bogies supplied are the closest match at the moment for N Gauge. The correcty type are available from the 2mm Scale Association and can be fitted with N Gauge wheelsets). I think the NGS and TPM are producing some more modern bogies which may include the correct type for the FNA (they're certainly doing the ones for the TEA tankers for example). Regional Boy
Yep sorry, its earlier in the thread but SKits OO guage, basically its the joining of the sideframes to the cross member, does it sit between the side frames or on top of them ( Ive put them between, works but does seem a lot of slack in the axles), does the slot for the coupling face up/down or not matter. Simple stuff but my first kit attempt and I have zero apptitude for these things. Will dismantle and try again if wrong, or try to find a r-t-r bogie that matches and use them instead. Thanks John

Regional Boy
Hi Jo, looks great, I'm guessing its N guage, any chance of a picture of the bogies from underneath. Cant be to disimilar to the OO guage ones. Many thanks John
