RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted November 4, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 4, 2009 Pictures of the Bachmann USA Thomas and the first I've seen of Percy on their photo gallery http://www.bachmannt...ery/album37/aag These are only available in the US so if you want one you'll have to import it yourself. Trucks for a nice gauge 1 industrial layout anyone?http://www.bachmannt...ery/album37/aan http://www.bachmannt...Engine-pictures
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted February 13, 2010 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 13, 2010 Well they've arrived in the UK, these from Dragon G scale. They appear to be about 1/26th scale on 45mm track so a bit narrow gauge. Thomas would be easily bashed to an industrial with a new dome and smokebox door, Percy just needs a new smokebox door and a repaint. Thomas ran very smoothly straight out of the box while Percy was quite lumpy. Removing the keeper plate and cleaning out the grease and then running in seems to have virtually eliminated this though. Going to go for some trucks and coaches which are also easy to modify by removing the faces. Compact industrial layouts are going to get popular! With the cabs removed Comparison with Accucraft Caledonia & LGB Heidi
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted February 13, 2010 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 13, 2010 Bachmann have announced James is to follow and some unspecified rolling stock. Coupler adaptors to lower them to LGB height are included. http://toyxplosion.com/2010/02/new-thomas-friends-products-to-be-featured-at-the-2010-toy-fair/
RMweb Premium Steven B Posted February 14, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 14, 2010 Cheltenham Model Centre had Thomas, Percy, wagons and Annie and Clarabel on sale at the BRM/Doncaster show this weekend. Usual caveat: no commercial interest other than as an occasional customer. Happy modelling, Steven B.
Pete Piszczek
Had a good look at the Thomas set today. Percy might be convertable to something prototypical, but Thomas has a definite distortion. Way too tall for it's length! It reminds me of some of the LGB items that use a different scale depending on whether it is length, width, or height. The quality looked very good, much better than the last G scale Thomas sets. Retail price at the Hobby Lobby here in Easton PA was $179. Not bad at all when you consider what you get. That's not much more than the price of some of the crappy HO sets... I'm having a bit of trouble finding out online, could you tell me how Percy's wheels and wheelbase scale up in inches/cm please? In a nut shell i'm just wondering if the chassis can serve for a conversion project i've got in mind but I need to know if it's anywhere near close before making a purchase. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 13, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 13, 2017 Steve, sorry mines at the Oldies place so not able to measure at the moment. Be at least a couple of weeks before I'm down that way for dinner and can measure it. You could try asking on Gscalecentral as several have Percy or conversions using the chassis. HSB
I have seen an article on adapting the wagons to 21/2 inch gauge. They are nowhere near the right size for Gauge 1!
