60018, as supplied by Hornby, has a non-corridor tender with a slightly narrower body than the corridor version - does anyone know which other A4s were paired with the same type? I'm most interested in the last few years (post-'61) and realise that there were probably several swaps at that time; I'd prefer to depict one of the late survivors.

JUST 2 ACTUALLY 60023 GOLDEN EAGLE

Ah! Well remembered Derek - totally missed that one, BUT lo and behold, there's a model of an apple green GE on the shelf above me...with a non-corridor tender!

I believe the phrase is "d'oh!"

I'm curious as to why these A4s only received non-corridor tenders. I understand that the A1s and later A3s gave theirs to A4s that went into service, but why were these A4s excluded from having the corridor tenders?

A corridor tender was only needed on the non stop London - Edinburgh service. A4s were used on many more shorter high speed runs where a change of crew was not required.

Thanks chaps, it looks like I'll be choosing 60019 "Bittern" (unless anyone fancies doing a swap with me for a corridor tender???) Seriously, please PM me if there's one available).

60024 "Kingfisher" is interesting, I'm guessing that in Aug'66 it received a tender from a withdrawn classmate (60034 perhaps?).

As '24 once appeared on the Southern for a railtour it would be a logical choice for me, but I could only depict it in the last 2-3 months of its life which is a bit restrictive!

The corridors, as said, were only required to crew -change on the non-stop Kings X - Edinburgh. So none of the Gateshead 52A A4's had corridors, nor did a few of the Kings X locos. All the Haymarket A4's had corridors. No doubt there is an odd exception, but this is the general rule.

You guess correctly. It's tender No 5640 and it was also once used with Flying Scotsman. I have seen a photo of it in 1966 with this tender and it looks to be clean and in tip top condition.
