Vanders
Having just spent a frustrating hour numbering one side of my class 22 with individual 2mm square waterslide transfers, I feel compelled to ask the question: what non-waterslide alternatives exist for N gauge/2mm modellers? Personally I'd need something that covered 1960's/1970's BR diesels, but what alternatives exist which are easy(er) to apply?
Etched Pixels
CCT do a sheet of pre TOPS loco numbers that are waterslide but as full numbers - so usually you can produce a number from one or two bits. Precision Decals will do pretty much any numbering for wagons, whatever to order. One tip I first saw on rmweb3 that I found helped a lot is to put the numbers on with the loco positioned so the numbers are upside down - that seems to make it easier to concentrate on the shape and thus line them up. But yes its exciting (2mm wagon numbers even more so). I normally do a couple of digits at a time then go do something else
RMweb Gold Scottish Modeller Posted January 16, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 16, 2011 Having just spent a frustrating hour numbering one side of my class 22 with individual 2mm square waterslide transfers, I feel compelled to ask the question: what non-waterslide alternatives exist for N gauge/2mm modellers? The best and easist to apply transfers I've ever found in N are the olde Pressfix ones. The e on old is there for a reason.... It's that long since I las had any - it feels like that amount of time has passed! Thanks
westie7
I've got the same problem trying to Large Logo a couple of 37's, the quality of waterslide transfers is very hit 'n' miss, the amount numbers I used to do 37051 was shocking, And as for the double arrow, an expensive nightmare. F2300 has 4 sizes of double arrows 4x12mm, 3x15mm, 1x17mm and 1x18mm. So nearly 6 quid just to get the one at 18mm suitable for 37051
Etched Pixels
I've never had any real problems with the Fox large logo ones beyond a sheet that broke up and was replaced when I sent them back. I really dislike their standard tops ones though as they have a "helpful" white line under the numbers to line them up which I find unhelpful and needs trimming. The Replica Railways ones are rubdowns which makes them easier to apply but does mean you can't move and adjust them after the fact but have to get them dead right initlally. Not too hard for some locos but a pig when there are handrails and the like in the way. http://www.replicarailways.co.uk/transfers/n-gauge prices are good too The N Gauge Society sells Modelmaster decals in 2mm which cover a lot of stuff including things like loco numbers. Catalogue sections are at: http://www.ngaugesociety.com/index.php?page=modelmaster-2#ModelmasterCat They cover some chunks of stuff that Fox doesn't as well. Vanders
The Replica Railways ones are rubdowns which makes them easier to apply... Rubdown transfers are exactly the sort of thing I want. Looking at the Replica Railways range it's numbers only: not even any double-arrows. Still, if I didn't have to faff with the individual waterslide numbers I wouldn't mind too much having to stick with waterslides for stuff like the double-arrows and warning flashes.
