Im having a mental block, or memory loss.

Base enhanced and base reflex speakers, how do you tell one from the other.

I fitted one in my Hornby class 60 a year ago.

Also those who have both ,how do they compare?? Im ready to do another.

I would welcome your opinions??

THANKS.

base reflex is the larger and deeper sounding one. The base enhanced is roughly the same size as the standard 20 x 40, a little flatter so sometimes easier to fit (ie class 66). Cant say its any better sound wise than the standard but the the base reflex is a deeper sound. That does not always suit/improve every sound chip in my experience, especially if at shows.

Of course, you both meant to type "bass reflex" didn't you? ;)

I was speeeling it in Wenglish! :D

Just looked at the fleet and reminded myself. I went to some bother to fit a "bass" (thaught that was a fish?)enhanced speaker in the tanks of a Bachmann 66. The result after much cutting and shoving was it did not sound any better than the simple job of fitting two base enhanced speakers inside the body. Bachamnn 66.

The BASS enhanced version is a sealed enclosure approx 40 x 20 x 8mm deep, only one size avail AFAIK. Well worth fitting in place of a std 20 x 40, normally fairly easy to fit in most locos.

BASS reflex speakers have an enclosure with a "round hole/tube" often called the port - the size of which is "tuned" to give the optimal sound. AFAIN they come in 3 ? sizes and normally require more mods/work to fit, given their bigger sizes.

All avail from DCC Supplies - normal disclaimer - just a happy end user :)

Ken
