RMweb Premium polybear Posted November 16, 2009 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 16, 2009 Hi all, Just wondered what methods, if any, people use to keep the dreaded dust away from layouts? I have the idea of perhaps using very lightweight hinged (or removable) covers - some form of framework covered in one of the model aircraft heatshrink wing covering materials perhaps?. Any thoughts much appreciated please! Brian
johnb
Hi all, Just wondered what methods, if any, people use to keep the dreaded dust away from layouts? I have the idea of perhaps using very lightweight hinged (or removable) covers - some form of framework covered in one of the model aircraft heatshrink wing covering materials perhaps?. Any thoughts much appreciated please! Brian For my small 16ft x 1ft6ins exhibition layout I use those very light non slip dust/paint sheets that can be obtained from B&Q or Wickes. They are the white ones that look like very large thin J cloths. Nice and cheap and light enough not to damage scenic items. I don't use a frame, just simply lay the sheets over the layout. For the layout I've sliced one sheet lengthways which is more than long enough.
Tim Chambers
Sorry Brian, only just returned from a parental trip to Sussex- good question, don't know why it hasn't cropped up before. To me,layout cover absolutely vital, but as you may deduce, I only do small layouts! For my 6' BLT a lightweight wooden frame supporting a folded sheet of B&Q clear plastic dust sheet, for my wee portrayal of the ND&CJLR platform at Halwill, a stretch of similar plastic, attached to a square section dowel which clips over the backscene and drapes itself over the layout.
