British Rail 12 Ton Ventilated Van

Recommended Posts

The historical context is that the Ministry of Defence purchased a batch of 1/208 vans from Charles Roberts in 1958. I think these were Standard Design to the Third Pattern with planked sides, plywood doors and "lift link" brakegear. The modelling context is that Tony is building a 4mm/OO Longmoor Military Railway layout and I'm producing an accurate set of MOD wagons for him.

I'm building a brace of wagons using the Parkside/Dundas PC07A kit and the Red Panda RA01 underframe kit. I'm having problems with the brakegear and would appreciate information on the accurate position and angle of the vacuum cylinder.

If anyone would like to see Liss Forest Depot in the flesh, it's first outing is to the Firepower exhibition (Woolwich SE18 6ST) on 4th and 5th June.

Paul, many thanks.

For everyone, the two vans are ready to go to Tony for painting. I'm sure he will photograph them for RMWeb. However for anyone interested in building Third Pattern Ventilated Vans, I used the Parkside kit, Red Panda chassis, ABS whitemetal brake shoes (the Parkside ones seemed to be too fragile for exhibition use), and will fit Markit brake pipes and oleo buffers. I've used Slaters plastic strip for the rainstrip.
