signalmaintainer
Shortliner (Jack) sent me a couple rolls earlier this year of a hanging basket liner product called Flexiliner that he'd picked up. I have two modelers here in the US who are interested in the possibilities of using hanging basket liner to represent large grassy fields, etc. I'd like to obtain the name of a wholesaler or retailer -- heck, I'd even settle for black market if I had to -- so we can order Flexiliner over here. Should only cost us an arm and a leg what with the currency exchange and shipping, but what the hey. Anyone have a name or link? Thanks!
shortliner
Paul, yours came from a DIY chain called "Homebase" here in UK - I don't know any more about it though Edit did a quick google and found this - they are manufacturers http://www.igcintern...ca/supamoss.htm Not sure if it is the same stuff though Best Jack
signalmaintainer
Thanks, Jack, for the link and the tip about Homebase. The retailer doesn't offer it for sale online, so I'll try to find one that does. But at least I know there's a source.
smudgeloco
Hi, funny how things pop up on here just when you think about posting about it. I was going to post asking if anyone would care to send me some of this stuff over, for a swap of some pot toppers or something else unobtainable over in the UK. I have seen some good results done with basket liners, and some that are a bit iffy! I think it would suit my O gauge narrow gauge layout to a T. So, anyone want to send me some? Pretty please with knobs on.
shortliner
Smudge - not certain that it is likely to be about at the moment as there isn't a lot of call for hanging baskets at this time of year - but I can have a look next time I'm in Inverness, probably Tuesday. Most likely to be available as we come up towards Easter

shortliner
Must be honest - I stay out of there on a weekend near Christmas - it tends to be the North of Scotlands version of "Warley without the trains"

smudgeloco
Over here (Stateside) they have the liners, but they are rougher than a hairy doormat! More like coconut hair!

DonB
Our local branch of the Garden Centre chain called Wyvale (www.wyvale.co.uk ) usually stock the green, hanging basket liner, as cut shapes and ,I believe, in rolls for sale by the metre @ 650mm wide. It may be a seasonal item, it's not listed currently on their web pages. The branches have recently been rebranded as "(Town name)Garden Centre" as a move, according to their press release, "back to their roots" (terrible Pun!) The web site does list all the branches. I'll have a look in ours over the W/E and report back. I'll have to dodge the kids visiting the Xmas Grotto! Usual Disclaimer! Don't actually like the place. DonB
I went to the local Wyvale garden centre today. They do sell it at ??3.00 per metre (600mm wide) and call it "Easyliner". They had an unopened roll of the stuff, but no manufacturer's name on it. It was located on a rack with other bulk items, like garden fleece and greenhouse Bubble-wrap. Being a seasonal item it was in an out-of-the-way corner, so in any Wyvale branch (check their web site for your nearest one) you would need to search (or ask) to find it. Usual Disclaimer again! smudgeloco
Guys, just to let you know - I found a supplier. A very friendly guy, he sent me two samples, as he carries two types. Both would serve very well. One is a darker colour, more late summer grass effect, the other much greener, height of summer stuff. He is currently sorting out shipping costs for me, in one two three and four metre packages. I'm not sure I can give addresses etc on here, so if you want to know then email me.
