Rick_Skateboard
Hello all. Can anyone recommend a good compressor for airbrushing? Basic requirements are mains voltage, quiet running (for indoor use) and not too expensive! I'm just about to start airbrushing, I've not done any before, but once I get going I intend to do quite a lot, mostly weathering, but some touching up/repainting. Any help would be great, cheers. Arthur
A few RMweb members have used this type of compressor with good results.? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MINI-PISTON-TYPE-AIR-COMPRESSOR-WITH-TANK-FOR-AIRBRUSH_W0QQitemZ260508383579QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Crafts_DrawingSupplies_EH?hash=item3ca782795b They're available from other sellers both on and off ebay. ? The fact that it has an air reservoir evens out any pulses in the air supply. ? They are well made and are quiet in operation.? Arthur
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted November 23, 2009 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 23, 2009 i recently see a compresser for ??48 in the expo cataloge or they have a set up with airbrush for ??100 If you want a silent compressor to start with, use a car wheel/tyre. You may get a tiny bit of condensation with this? If you have a decent pump it will hardly cost you a penny. There are adapators for the sir brush hose to fit the tyre valve fitting. Try it and see what happens (but not on your favourite piece of stock first; practise on junk stuff). Follow sensible H & S advice. Good luck.36E

Arthur I'm with Arthur This is the compressor I have and doesn't take long at all to get upto pressure and even then its really quiet. Consistant air from the storage tank and built in water filter although a second wouldn't go amiss. No connections just a happy user. hth Dave

Cheers, Rick The ebay one is a cracking deal. As its sold as unbranded thats why you can get them at these decent prices. There is no discernable difference between that ebay compressor and the one Squires sell for ??250+! Happy compressing!?

Don't know if it's too late or not, but that particular auction is not really a good deal. For another ??5 you can get the same compressor plus two double action airbrushes from here. Owen
I use a Machine Mart Whiz Mini for Airbrushing. I used to have a huge 8 Bar Tank compressor but gave up on it because it was too loud - the Whiz Mini, when used with a water trap works a treat and there is a simple screw valve that can be used to alter the output pressure. I've been using it for a couple of years now and its been a stalwart performer.
