I think it's probably the 1990 TV mini series 'The Civil War', the DVD is available from Amazon. It was one of the most successful series ever made for U.S. TV.

Arthur.

No: the award winning series you mention was a documentary using black & white images from the war.

In that case take a look at "North and South" Also a mini-series from 3 books by John Jakes.

Although this says released 2010 - it is the same series

http://www.amazon.co...11785728&sr=8-2

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088583/

If that isn't it - perhaps it is one of these

However I'm now begining to wonder - according to http://www.jvmusic.net/FCBB.html the Federal City Brass Band was only formed in 2002, specifically to recreate the Civil War music - there is a link address so you may be able to find out from them what the film was

Thanks for the Links you sent. It's not North&South as I've got the DVD set.

The YouTube clip Original Poster states the film was so memorable

he forgot the name of it!

I'll probably post the FBBand's Bandmaster and ask if any of his

bandsmen recall any details.

And, if I remember correctly, it rather excessively used a dreary version of 'Ashokan Farewell' (which is a pretty dreary piece of music to begin with) as its theme music. I still don't like that piece of music, even though I have since heard better renditions of it. Otherwise it was a pretty good serialized documentary.

Martin.

Thanks for the contact address.

Someone suggested the film was from a Civil War re-enactment group; but I think

the clip shows real actors (though I don't recognise any of them).

There is straight to Video film production Jefferson and Adams (2004) that is listed with "Jefferson Band" by Imdb search.....sounds likely as it looks like a TV production more than a big film.

Stephen.

Edit, it is about Jefferson and Adams, too early, war of Independance not Civil War, so still a mystery

Ive not looked at the link yet, but it could well be Gods & Generals ... that was made in 2003, and is a pretty good film IMO :)

Mickey.

No: It's not that film either.

If you like G&Generals, there's a Directors cut version with added scenes.

It's approx £18 at the moment; but I might rent it from Blockbuster should it

become available.

I think it may be a movie called 'War So Terrible'. Here are some links to items about that movie:

http://cwmemory.com/...ar-so-terrible/

http://deadconfedera...ar-combat-film/

http://www.pamplinstore.pointshop.com/IBS/SimpleCat/Product/asp/hierarchy/02/product-id/25888500.html

One of these says the Confederate soldier who is a main character is called "Andrew Jackson Stewart", and you can hear him being introduced by that name in the movie clip. Also, the Union soldier is called "Benjamin Franklin Meyers". In the clip, one Union soldier calls the other 'Ben', and the binder that soldier's speech is in has the name 'Joshau Meyers' on it.

I think you're spot on about the title being 'War So Terrible'.

Thanks for posting the Links to a film I've never heard off.

Brian Kamerrer: who does great CIvil War artwork thought the clip came from this film

...

but your comment about the names of the main characters and the film plot makes

me think your answer is the right one.

I'm very pleased at finding not one; but two quality films that I hadn't heard of and will buy

both films.

It will make a welcome change to watching Gods& Generals.

Thanks again.
