heres an updated video, taken on the 06:55 express service from moor st to marylebone, perfect conditions to record this morning, overcast with no rain so no sun glare!

Did the run in 1 hour 31 minutes even after being slowed down through banbury because of a late running XC service, without that i would have done it in 1:28 i recon

the video was filmed and edited completly on my iphone, i set the timelapse app running before i left birmingham with the phone in aeroplane mode so i dont touch it on the move, then edited it using the splice app

enjoy......

I did enjoy, thanks Jim :)

Are you going to keep recording your trips until you get a sub 90 minute run? ;)

Just a thought, is there any way you could add captions for the major stations, tunnels etc - it would add to the interest in my mind?

The iphone video editing software only allows me to add titles between clips rather han over the top, its something i looked at doing but quite simply can't unfortunatly at the moment

the first power door set is currently en route from donny to wembley as i type this.......

note the wider dark grey band to denote that its a power door set

Ah - so I hope they've managed to stop the doors leaking, especially with the return of wet & windy weather promised for next week.

lets hope so!!

being as the coaches are in the public domain now i can post this picture...

you can see how much work has gone into the new doors, not blindingly obvious when you first look but they no longer wrap round the end of the coach so the corner pillar is a totally new fabrication, also note new egress', cant rail light, door open buttons etc

who's gonna be the first to model it i wonder, my money is on roundhouse?

Business Zone is effectively first class. We have used it on a friday night and paid the upgrade (which I think was 20 quid).

Jim - I am looking at my spare Dapol WSMR coaches with a view to modifying them but need to find the correct shades of paint before I do any modifications let alone the decals!

i can get the RAL paint codes for you but they are basically mercedes silver and renault grey (or vice versa!)

Jim

Are they actually being used in service yet or just stabled there for now?

I wonder whether precision decals will do the decals including the blue bands either side of the grey. The doors are a different shape to the original so its not just a case of scoring a new door line at the ends but its doable in N scale as long as decals are available.

That's a useful view of the door, Jim - hadn't realised before about the taper on the door from the body curve to the flat corner pillar, which explains the triangular window. Not an easy thing to model I'd say!

And - so I've been told - not an easy thing to do on the full size vehicles :O

Certainly not with the curve of the tumble home to contend with, a fabricators nightmare. The easiest way to do it would be to make a template of the coach side and mark the position of the flat section cut this out and then use the template to mark the bodyside/door for cutting, and use the other bit to mark out and cut the flat section and weld it in. still a sod of a job to get the transition curve from one to the other though.

Cheers

And individually for each door aperture - I understand that the sizes and position of the apertures tended to vary somewhat - before any bodywork mods were done to take the new doors hence the problems which led to delayed acceptance.

Not much chance of me getting to Banbury in the next few weeks. Are there any plans for loco hauled services at weekends do you know?

I reckon that the existing door panel sans glazing could be filled then rubbed smooth after which a unit able file then used across the end to a pre marked line might do it on Daopl N scale MK 3's. Might have to find a spare one and have a go. It's repeating it on another 4 coaches that old be laborious.

Interesting to see photos of the new vestibule. Looks like the gangway doors have been removed in order to fit the new sliding doors between carriages.

Are there any changes to the main part of the interior (can't find any photos of those) or are they basically the same as they were in WSMR days?

I was studying one of my spare Dapol WSMR mk3's last night. I reckon its still doable in N.

I was patching a class 67 and DVT last night where I had rubbed off the WSMR branding with a fairly close Humbrol grey paint. WIll have a close look once its dry to see how close a match the patching is. If its Ok, I may try altering a mk3 door. The only problem is doing the coloured bands above and below the window grey band.
