Slaters Brick Sheets - Joining Corners

Hi all,

Im currently having a play with scratchbuilding using plasticard and Slaters brick sheets, and wondered if anyone had any tips on how to join/disguise the corners?

Unfortunately, this is a bridge abutment, so I can't really use a drainpipe on this.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

The most important thing is to line up the courses round the corner.

Make sure you've cut the edges square. Once you've glued it, wait at least 24 hours before doing anything, preferably longer.

You can nick every course with a triangular file, or a razor saw, take your pick. Give it a go.

You can also rub across the corner from the brick side with a brass suede type brush. This is usually the icing on the work with a file, as it takes the "rag" out of the grooves you've cut.

have sucessfully run PVA into large ghastly gaps with some success, it hides the join but of course you dont get relief, but it does look better than a gap once dried and painted/weathered over.

Thats very much from the 'bodgers guide' though, its probably better to try get tips for doing it right first time! ;)

Thanks for all the replies.

Tim V, I was thinking that would be the case, I was really after a bodge shortcut, but seeing as one don't exist, I took your advice and filled the joint, then scribed every joint running down on the problem edge of brick plastic. The pic shows the bridge abutment with some test paintwork, and the corner is rubbed down somewhat, but im sure once painted it will hide the corner better than it was.

Practice makes perfect, and im hoping to get better at this the more I build.

Regards

Paul

That looks OK. I use Polycell ready mixed fine filler on my buildings. Carefully squeeze the filler into the gaps then with a damp cloth clean up the corners.

When completely dry a touch up with an old triangular file makes for a very neat join.

One I finished earlier. (PS I have not done the platform front, that was just a temporary job.)
