Tigger
Hi All The bug has just bitten me again after 25 years I founds a copy of "The Royal Train" by Brian Hoey and that has led to me starting to build the full Royal Train (With Class 47's) I started by getting a couple of Hornby Royal Train Coaches but these are so inaccurate, they barely deserve the title Having done lots of research I am going to use the Hurst Models bits and pieces and I will post the progress as and when I make it. If anyone has done this before and can offer any advice or you may have any cracking photos of things like the carriage ends or the bits that don't normaly appear in the avarage "Royal Train photo" I would be very grateful PS: Why are the bogie springs on the individual coaches different colours? i.e 2903 (Queens Saloon) Yellow, 2920 (generator car) Blue at Loco end and Green at the other, the list goes on................... 250BOB
Hi Tigger Sorry to see no one has responded to your initial post.......but welcome anyway.......with regard to your questions, this isnt the place to ask them, you need to place them in the appropriate section on the main forum. Mod2
Thanks Bob, I've moved the whole post as it's more query than anything else If Tigger wants to repost an introduction in New Members, it might be as well. Cheers.

Cheers. Hi Mod2....I was just browsing and saw his post in New Members where it had laid ignored for about a month, so I thought I would at least give our friend a reply and bump it up. Just browsing the New Members threads, there doesnt seem to be as many Welcome responses as there used to be....is it because our members are too miserable , or do our full members rarely visit this section anymore....I suspect the second. I hope we dont give our prospective new members the wrong impression by the lack of response to their personal introductions, could be they think we are a pompous, stuck up, load of modellers if we ignore them like this........ I'm just as miserable as the rest.......first time I've visted "New Members" Bob

Can't help with details of the vehicles, but I think the different colours are to identify different spring rates; i.e. the generator car has heavier duty springs at the heavy end - the end with generator in it. RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 3, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 3, 2010 Hello and welcome .. You probably need to specify the date that you are interested in ... Here's a more recent - 2007 - video of the Royal train http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQOpKzL5V8o I think I have some shots with the 47s working it, I remember being at Warrington Bank Quay late one summer Sunday and the Royal train appeared, at the time I imagined the Queen flailing (arm waving) as the 47's opened up, after a slowing for the South junction, obviously Her Majesty didn't but it was a source of amusement
250BOB
But you could just imagine Harry doing it couldnt you.!!!! Bob
DavidB-AU
The July 1981 Railway Modeller had an article on modelling the 1977 Royal Train. The Queen's saloon and Duke of Edinburgh's saloon are the only coaches from that era still in use but the article may help with those. Cheers David

RMweb Premium Steven B Posted January 7, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 7, 2010 Rail Express number 117 contains an article on modelling the Royal Train in the Rail Express Modeller suplement. Contains some photos of OO gauge Models and a two page spread detailing Royal Train formations since the 1970s. Well worth getting hold of. Details on how to get hold of back issues are on their website Happy modelling, Steven B.

Tigger
I have the two 47's almost finished, they just need a few tiny details added and I have a few old MK3's lying around which I realy should crack on with. I got a bit distracted with SWAG Modules and some other things Anyway heres a pic or two of my Royal 47's I have just noticed that I must put some "pipes" in those engine compartment windows
RJS1977
There is a former RT carriage in the Fawley collection (had been used as a nursery for W & H), if you can wangle yourself an invitation. Unfortunately it isn't easy to get a good view of it )even though you can walk right round it) so I don't really have any photos, but it's in the background of this shot:

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted September 8, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 8, 2011 Thats really interesting, do you know what number the coach is? There's nothing visible on the outside of it although I've an idea there might have been some brief details on the inside somewhere. The exterior of it appears to have been repainted with something similar to (but not exactly the same as) the original colour and the finish is now totally different as there is no trace of any lining plus it isn't polished. As already noted by RJS it is in a very difficult position for photography (which is why I'm not bothering to post my pics of it!) and that is of course assuming you can get in there in the first place ... I've been looking for a chance to get in there for very many years and only succeeded this year because Lord & Lady McAlpine hosted a local fete; otherwise it's societies etc only and I've heard that the current waiting list is two years. Tigger
I have had a dig about in my poorly filed notes (I must sort that out soon) and I am 99% sure that this is 45005 an LMS coach built in built in 1942 as Chairmans Saloon/Royal Saloon. Looking at an internal drawing I have it has a small seating area with a table an sofa it one end and the rest of the space was taken up with four sleeping compartments. It was still in use as part of the Royal Train during the Queens Silver Jubilee in 1977 and was then retired, initialy it seem to Steamtown Carnforth with a BR Plate STRM99064 and then ownership passes to Fawley Hill
Tigger
I have carried on digging and they also have 2900, a Royal Family lounge with bedrooms and bathroom. Removed a/c
The Locomotive is fantastic Tigger !!! I am tempted to have a go at the Hurst kits.( I just bought two old Hornby coaches HM the Queen's and Prince Philip's) Are they difficult to assemble and do they come with instructions and suggestions for painting and what type of paint to use? Regards Scott
Tigger
Hi Scott I have not done any of the Hurst kits yet, in fact they a not kits as such but etched brass overlays, so I cannot comment. But I am sure there are others who can. The paint was Railmatch 326 - Royal Train Claret finished after the Fox transfers were applied with Satin Varnish Hope that helps
