RSS Fetcher
Today I decided to stick a Viessmann Hp0/Hp1 semaphore into Bad Horn, as although a German station of its size and traffic probably wouldn't have full signalling, I feel it adds something. Viessmann signals are simplicity in itself to install, simply drill a hole and follow the instruction sheet. No assembly or painting, just some wiring. They are even designed to isolate a section when at Hp0 (stop), although I won't use this. They run entirely off 16v AC supply, so straight off the accessory output of many controllers. I'm not sure if the light flicker is a design feature or not, although these do represent oil lamps so it's possible. The action is a nice speed as well. I'm very pleased with it. Although my first intention was to operate the layout entirely under DCC control, I'm tempted to attempt a set of levers with interlocking. Although I think a mechanical solution would be lovely, I'm tempted to create a solid state system with logic gates. This wouldn't prevent me from physically moving a lever, I have the idea of installing LEDs above signal levers which light up to inform the operator that the signal may be cleared. The electronics would prevent the signal clearing if the route was not correctly set, even if the operator threw the switch. The circuitry would be a nice little mental exercise and a learning experience. Another option is the use of computer control as a test bed for Steinr??cken. I don't think that this would be so nice to operate though, and I haven't set Bad Horn up for track circuiting. View the full article
