PaulWarb
Hi folks I bought some 18 medium kadees recently, thinking they would fit some Hornby Coalfish wagons but they are a bit too short. I'm sure I'll end up using them (or sell them on ebay) but in the meantime I have a question. Is the best way forward to get the longer Kadeee (20) or do I need to reposition the NEM pocket? I'm sure someone has tried this - I need your help!! If the 20 is only going to extend both kadees a tiny amount am I better off shifting the NEM pocket - would I be wasting my time and money on the 20's? The wagons are going to be used on a layout at the moment with no tight curves and only long radius turnouts. They may though be used on a layout in the future with tighter curves. 34theletterbetweenB&D
The difference between an 18 and a 20 is 2mm, if that is any help in gauging whether the 20 will be long enough (nos 17, 18, 19, 20 increment by millimetre steps in overall length). Personally I would try simply not pushing the 18s fully home; a dot of thick cyano on the Kadee shank adjacent the pocket front will hold the position well enough, once you have adjusted for height and are happy with operation. Adrian Wintle
I would suggest trying #19s before going about the effort of moving the NEM pocket. Adrian
Butler Henderson
Presumably as you are fitting Kadees then you will fitting Kadees to other items of rolling stock and you will need 17s, 18s,19s and 20s to suit. Keep the 18a, get a pack of 19s and a pack of 20s and see which fits the best.
