So the plan.. and as built today is a double track main line with lower level fiddle yard but, and here's the but, the lower level fiddle yard would be under scenery at the back of a 2'6 board, accessable if anything goes wrong by going through the scenery and reaching over the scenic portion. Finally, I have decided, as many would already know.. this is a recipie for disaster. I think this is what's also been holding me up from doing to much, because in the back of my mind, I have been fretting about this. I have been testing and running as it is now and have only had 2 problems in the yard area in 3 months.. both from trains overruning a section break whilst on automatic control, but 2 is 2 many when the getting to it would be awkward.

So a new yard will be built... on the other side of the room, in the open, turning the layout from being down one wall of the room to being an oval operated from the middle. The advantage of this right now, is I can build the new yard in it's entirity whilst the current layout runs happily and then when all built, just relay the entrance tracks so they turn in the opposite direction. It will also give me the opportunity to increase my minimum radius from 12" to 24" on the main lines and add an extra track in each direction so my train capacity goes from 5 trains each way to 8 or 10.

Now the decision is made, I feel much happier again and lots more enthusiasm to keep going. Strange how the psycological part makes so much difference to the enthusiasm.

Now, whatever happens on the layout, it will be fully accessable to rectify or to clean tracks etc.

Suppose I should go buy some wood to start extending the boards round the outside of the room http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

Maybe I need a new signature.. NO HIDDEN TRACKS http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/public/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif

Regards to all

Graham
