For those with time on their hands, and an interest in 1950s operations

That's Tony Thompson, a veritable guru on Espee and PFE rolling stock. He, along with Richard Hendrickson, put on clinics at the RPM meet in Cocoa Beach each January. This year together they did a weathering clinic on using washes. Tony uses acrylic tube paints, Richard uses oil tube paints. I came home and found a suitable guinea pig/victim and went at it. With a little practice the results were quite satisfying. As often as not I'll add some additional schmutz in the form of Bragdon powders...now I'm weathering anything I can reach!

Good man!

I'm coming around to thinking that a small layout/diorama with stuff that is accurately represented (i.e. time consuming) is the way to go. Unfortunately my rotten eyes and stubby padded fingers do not often cooperate....

Best, Pete.

Pete, you *need* to come to Cocoa Beach RPM...you really do.

Heck, you guys across the pond should come too. Load up the wife and kids, fly into Orlando, dump 'em off at Mouseland and drive the hour over to Cocoa Beach!
