how to wire a smoke unit to dcc decoder

Hi can anyone help I'm wanting to fit a seuthe no22 smoke unit in one of my steam locos and useing a Hornby 4 function decoder R8249 but don't want to just wire it to track feeds as it will be on all the time I would like to wire it to one of the functions if I can plz could do with some help

Check the rating, smoke units can consume more current than some decoder function outputs give.

If there sufficient current available it can be connected to one of the function outputs (as you would a light) and switched on and off at will.

 

Smoke units are AC/DC so no polarity issues to worry about.
