You should have no problem with a second-hand one, always assuming the seller confirms it's in working order. There's not much to go wrong as it's all electronics - no moving parts. And the Lenz guarantee is for 10 years. All you may have to do before you use it is to go through the full system-reset procedure, so that all the variables (such as address range, pulse duration etc.) are at default values. If you check on Ebay you'll find prices of SH are not much less than new, which is a good indication that they're reliable when bought used.

I bought some second hand and they have worked perfectly, If they have been previously used and programmed with different numbers you may have to reset them to default, but that is not a problem.
