Could anyone shed some light on how to open up the Mark 3 buffet as I would like to split it so I can respray it?

Any help much appreciated in advance.

The October issue of Model Rail magazine has a rolling stock supplement and opening a Hornby/Lima mk3 is in the FAQ section. Not sure if buffet coaches are same but the steps are:

  • Push out carriage ends with tweezers or small flat screwdriver
  • bogies just pull off
  • Put a flat blade between chassis and the body to release clips at each corner, you can use thin card to prop it open while you do the rest
  • Put a blade into the corner of the roof joint and lift upwards while at the same time pushing the glazing in.
  • After working along eacg side the glazing and roof should lift out.

Haven't done it myself yet but I have a mk3 waiting for it!

The Hornby mk3 coaches are simply a chassis with body clipped on, the roof is part of the body moulding. The previous instructions are the much trickier lima coach instructions. I have a set which contains both types on my workbench at the minute.
