If you think that's dirty, you should have seen some of our local 37s in the 70s!  Other classes were used on passenger work and went through carriage washers, but 37s in South Wales were very much freight horses, and it showed, especially on any still wearing the original plain dark green livery.

TOPS 55 to 60 Hour exam. Oil. Brake test. Coolants.  Nothing intense. I’m sure OFSTED won’t mind.
