rs4
A small follow up re the handrails. When properly formed you get a flat bottomed base rail. That glues onto the module base (there is a recess for it). So you get something like this: Now, on the prototype there is no such bottom rail, so just paint out the rail in network rail blue same as the base: So that's about another 6 hours Input today. Would have been handy to have kept a record....

rs4
Thanks Chaps. Your support has certainly helped me through this. Not at the end yet though... Cantrails Steps Glue modules to bases Super detail parts (light cables, piping), water pipes, Some remaining small transfers to bases Weatheringl So that will be the five done. For the remaining 2 sets I've got to build 6 further tankers.... And someone who will remain nameless has asked me to build 1 of each module for him...fame...these are going to need to be very, very good.
yorkie_pudd
no need to worry nick you and we all know full well you can do it and be a great addition to that persons layout, and maybe a start of new things to come.
rs4
So it's Saturday... Cantrails to do. The technique I've been using is to cut to length, wet with microsol and place in situ. Either carefully tease off or tease off, hold one end and remove paper. Hopefully it's pretty much in the right position then. Then tease into place with a fine brush & more lashings of microsol. With a bit of luck it then looks like this: Repeat on all the sides, taking extreme care not to touch your previous work.... Seconds later I did and off came a couple of sides worth of cantrail...arghhhhh. Same thing again, cut to size, soak with microsol, pull off: Backing paper completely off: About 2 hours later I've done these to complete the 5 sets of RHTT: Still got these to do at some point for the remaining 2 sets to make 7 sets:

rs4
Just to show you how small some of the transfers are....best cut out with no border to limit silvering issues, unless there is text on a clear background. Eyes on stalks time.. Here's the warning sign off the side of the steps: And applied to the module: All of the modules with their red warning sign: And finally....health and safety even in OO scale.....

Tase
Thanks Ken & Bobster & others for the likes. Steps glued on, some touch up on the white handrails. Varnish when dry ? You know it makes sense... Any thoughts on the weathering Nick?
Rammy
Amazing work! Those handrails and steps really finish them off great. You must have lots of patience. Dave

rs4
Hi Folks Likes and comments appreciated as ever. Have given the finished modules a coat of acrylic varnish today to protect the transfers & cantrails from the ravages of weathering ! Dapol FEAs also have had some transfers applied so they needed a bit of varnish too: The partially lined modules I've done too as a precaution against peeling, but they will need doing again when all the orange lines have been added: This is turning out to be an exercise in patience ! Good though !
yorkie_pudd
This is turning out to be an exercise in patience ! Good though ! That nick has been proved many times over and true credit to your modelling skills. question is when all done will you miss it depending on the next project of course and micro details required . rs4
Spot on question Ken... I'll likely go back to weathering but I have really enjoyed these RHTTs. I can sort of spray paint, but I wouldn't want to get involved with complex schemes / masking. I can do transfers now and the devilish cantrails I can build a kit.... But only a basic one. So what next ? I wouldn't rush to do anything involving wheels, bearings etc or anything costing big money. You can mess up a £10 module, but how about a £150 kit of a tamper (for example)?? Perhaps the next show I go to I'll look more closely at the kit builds available rather than passing them by...
yorkie_pudd
if spending £150 on a loco folk can be nervous about mucking up the weathering and rightly so, where if same spent on say 12 wagons it aint such a problem if one is mucked up as there is no wrong or right. you can leave it as wagons come in all clean to trashy states and wont matter as much. as others I wonder how your gonna weather the RHTT`s > 1 set cleanish as if just set out on a run 1 set medium filthy halfway through a run 1 set heavy dirty at end of run. rest of set sold and retire from the riches depending how many sets you or sell
rs4
Hello again.. A delivery in today (thanks Matt). It has given me the excuse to consider a slight variation on the RHTT theme... Seems like these recent conversions are aimed more at the Southern Region. There is an extra container too.... I'm speculating anti freeze perhaps ? Anyway, here's a pose on the base wagon. I may consider doing 1 or 2 of these for the 2 sets yet to be finished. The step position may need looking at, and the extra tank on the generator module. I was trawling through some emails today and found this.... Now they were fun to do..... Could do with some more grime around the buffers though, but the innards & loads were pretty good....
Tase
Great work. I see you've put them on a KFA. Is that the plan or are you still going for FEA's Nick?
rs4
Hi Tase 5 FEA May consider a further 2 on KFA - depends on steps & it would be nice to scratch build that extra box - whatever it is. It also saves a job - spraying 2 more FEAs black ! SCRATCH THAT. They would need spraying black, and I'd lose all that lovely printing.... Here is a link to one with the extra small upright tank: http://www.flickr.com/photos/63609267@N05/11273953414 Edited March 12, 2014 by rs4
rs4
Reporting in for duty.... No modelling time for a couple of weeks, really want to get the RHTT finished off, but lacking "something" Have purchased some araldite and also glue spots today with the intention of using one or other to glue the modules onto the FEAs. The glue spots are a possible idea which would possibly allow for modules to be swapped around.....maybe.... But what about the possible gap ??? We'll see. Bit of light work which again I had been putting off - fixing some of the couplings on the KFA bin liner set. I'd broken some lugs off when putting the wheels back in. Consequence ? Droooopy coupling syndrome, possibly contributing to derailing. At least that's what I'm hoping for - I've not actually completed a loop of the track unhindered - disappointing with such a great rake... With a bit of luck I'll be breaking out the glue this week... Video to follow of RHTT sets running ! Many other stalled projects I'm sort of having trouble restarting what with the RHTT stuff for the last 3+ months. Gypsum container rake. JGA RMC rake. Polybulks.... Fastline FEA...
