Barry Island ?  And here’s where I let slip my generation…. was where I went on Sunday School outings as a kid. Returning excursions queued up through the tunnel to take their ice cream & candy floss weary passengers home to an amazing variety of destinations. Some via the now demolished Walnut Tree viaduct behind of all things an ex LNWR G2.But that wasn’t the only exotic showing….

Barry Island was where I got the love of railways watching all specials arriving from my grandparent’s house. A really slick operation.

I visited Otter Garden Centre recently. I know many garden centres use the cute otter as their hook/logo but this one is in Ottery St Mary, near the river Otter, where there is a thriving otter colony so if anyone can justify the name, they can!

Did you see the water 'otter?

Interesting that for more money than an Accurascale pannier , 150 sheets would you believe, you can get a family advent calendar from Lindt, the world has gone mad. When I was a child, I had a religious themed one that I had to share with two sisters ! How times have changed.

Guess who’s been offered a cancellation space on tomorrow’s Pendon Scenic Modelling course! 😁

This couldn’t have been timed better, as I’m planning to crack on with my Hayles Abbey Halt ‘47 layout over the winter. My first ‘proper’ layout project.

Cheers

Some things are just meant to happen and exactly the push you need.

I recall the chocolate in advent calendars was always a bit strange.

Reminiscent of the non toxic variety for dogs.*

*Always been partial to a few "Good Boy" chocolate drops...

As excessive as this seems, Lindy are not really trying. Haighs (of Adelaide) have this one: https://www.haighschocolates.com.au/cm24-890-luxury-advent-calendar Sadly its old out and no I didn't buy one. Could have brought 3 sound fitted panniers instead.

That's a lot of chocolate to get through every day! Mind you, will look good on people's insta an YouTube accounts, enabling them to one-up the virtual neighbours.

As kids, my sister and I had the same, flat, cardboard advent calendars for about 10 years. Nothing inside the doors except a picture. Every year they got slightly more worn and more glitter fell off.

They were however a real sign that Christmas had arrived and were looked forward to. Low cost but, to us, high value. I suspect folk buying the high cost Lindy one will place little value on it. Sad state of affairs IMO.

Maybe Grumpy, but very well mellowed (I am reliably informed). A real Gentleman, with high class tastes in motive power. Such a character as has often lightened up my day/week/ month/year. Never ever underdressed or guilty of wearing Sheep Bloke attire. Guardian of Spanniers, and the God of Spam.

Ah hem, by any chance is one of your Spams Number 15 Exmouth? Asking for a fiend (sic).

Come on somebody in rtr , announce and make one !

I would have thought that the smaller 4-6-0s might have a broader market appeal, so Saint, Hall, Grange, County and Manor might be expected to outsell Star, Castle and King. The current success of Manors - even I've bought three - from two manufacturers may inspire, with any luck.
