Stroudie
I've got a Hornby 31 in a 70's BR version. I am re-spraying it and I'd like to add a modern hi-intensity front light at each end. What's the easiest way to do this with the existing Hornby circuit board; I had thought about using spare function wires on the decoder, but how do I identify where to tap into the common return? If I do identify the common return, is it + or - ? Any help gladly appreciated!
Adrian Wintle
The common return is the blue wire going to the 8-pin connector (I'm assuming an 8-pin wired decoder). You could also use a half-wave return by connecting the returns to one track feed. The common is the +ve (IIRC). Adrian

RMweb Gold Dagworth Posted January 11, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 11, 2010 On decoders the common blue wire is positive. All new generation Hornby locos have their LEDs wired common negative, with electronics on the circuit board that does the inversion. Andi
