I love everything 80's and this is just everything you could want!

The Pic was taken in the early 1990s 47503 was de-named in 1991 ex The Geordie the picture was taken not long after that.

Do you have details of where and when this photo was taken. I am a member of the Class 47 Preservation Project which now owns the loco (as 47771) and I am compiling a bit of a "47771 This is Your Life" so any info on what the loco has done etc is always welcome.

As a trainspotter in Kent, 47s were exotic. Two in a day was exceptional. Here's some from the mid-80s from the south.

One regular was the Dover-Willesden freight, usually ferry wagons, but here imported cars, at Rochester:

Another regular was the Westbury-Hothfield (near Ashford) aggregates. The return empties here at Maidstone East:

They spent a while on the Westbury-Allington run, so theoretically, you could have seen one at each Maidstone station some days.

 

And just N of the Thames, more aggregates, the "Tilbury Roadstone" PGAs at Stratford. Can't remember where they ran to:
