BlackRat
On this day in 1664, his majesty granted authority for the raising of 1200 land soldiers to serve in and to protect ships of the fleet. 349 years later, the Royal Marines continue to serve throughout the globe, on sea, on land and in the air. Nationaly a tiny proportion of,the countries population, but making a huge, significant difference to its credibility. As I look in the mirror and see wrinkles on a face that previously glowed with youthful exuberance, I now fully appreciate my time amongst these Men. Like the few who wear the Green Beret without making the headlines, I was a Royal Marines Commando , and for that, I will always be proud. Happy Birthday 'Royal', next year it's the big un!
