Now I wonder if that's the RailExclusive 33? Rapido are even more fanatical about detail than RE so fingers crossed!uke

Mind you RE have stated that it was a European manufacturer that they were using, so this MIGHT be another thing entirely :)

it may just be that the uk NMRA northern division are located in the heritage centre

Actually, they are going to do research on a UK "outline" (prototype) model that Rapido is planning for 2015.

Sounds like they're making something for us to look forward to!

Just decided to attend the presentation  - advance booked South East HighSpeed to St. Pancras and Virgin to and from Crewe. First time visit to Crewe Heritage Centre as well.

My bet is on the APT especially as they've done the TurboTrain - I've got two of those somewhere......now, where did I put them......

'Obsessive to the point of weird' or simply 'above and beyond the call of duty'?

Could the entrant to the market of someone so obsessive with detail and fidelity be the tonic to kick Hornby out of their 'design clever' funk? I hope so personally.

Judging by their record for only producing Canada-specific prototypes, I'd suggest it's the Class 142 that went to Vancouver for Expo 86..

While there is an obvious Canadian bias, Rapido have produced one US model, the Osgood Bradley coaches http://www.rapidotrains.com/ob1.html (New Haven prototype), and have another American prototype coming in the General American 37' Meat car http://www.rapidotrains.com/freight2.html , and the lastest newsletter indicates that an American passenger locomotive is in development.

Depends what scale they choose to model, 3.5 or 4mm. Or maybe their detail obsessiveness will lead to the first RTR P4 loco? :swoon:

Sounds like APT-E is the likely candidate then, but which scale? (1:148 makes more sense especially when you consider the smaller body profile of APT).

The APT-E has far fewer vehicles that need modelling compared to its electric successor. Mind you, I have always had a soft spot for the APT-P and I regret that I never got a chance to ride on it. Still, I have a pair of Hornby ones carefully packed away in the loft so all is not lost. ;)
