broadbent
I recently bought some laser etched brass signs at OO Gauge, with raised lettering. Just started modelling, and I have no clue as to how paint them. Can someone point me in the right direction please.
mopar
A good way is to paint them all over with the background colour required. When dry, rub them face down on a piece of wet and dry paper, that will clean the raised detail.
BRealistic
The alternative is to paint the raised lettering in the colour you want. No need to be precise. Let it dry and harden. Then paint the whole sign in the background colour and while it's still wet use a bit of kitchen roll to wipe it off the raised lettering. That, I think, is the usual way to paint etched smokebox numbers... as below. A bit wonky, I know, but the numbers are well defined!
Branwell
I'm working on some 2mm ones at the moment. Painted with White Gesso and then applied Vallejo Black Wash.
Campaman
Another method I use for small raised detail is as above paint with the background colour and then pick out the raised detail by painting with a cocktail stick. A small amount of paint on the very tip of the point is surprisingly controllable.
