12 Trains Of Christmas.

Hi

I thought this might provide a little entertainment for the next 12 days.

Not 12 days of Christmas, but 12 trains for Christmas - each day a new video of some realistic working that we've put together.

Day 1:

Two Wrexham & Shropshire 67 hauled trains pass (just realized that one should be pushing....oh well...). Both are a "lash up" with various liveried coaches and DVTs.

Enjoy

Look out for day 2 tomorrow.

Morning.

Day 3 of Trains of Christmas

70007 on a rake of Lafarge JPAs

I did enjoy weathering those. The 70s are ugly brutes, but they have a nice grunt to them when they're working hard. Last saw 007 at Leamington Spa climbing up the bank to the station with a 'liner. They also gather a nice bit of muck on them.

Enjoy

Nick

Good Morning.

Day 4 of 12 trains of Christmas.

Today, 60092 post refurb at Toton out on light duties, delivering fuel for its home depot.

I can't claim any credit for either the loco or the wagons..... Excellent though they are.

Enjoy

Nick

Thanks Polly, and thanks everyone for the "likes"

It's not been without frustration.... Without saying too much for a future video we did have fun and games lashing up 6 class 20s.... All the motors have different characteristics (or more likely different chips)..... Maybe that's for an outtake video as it is a bit "bump and grind" !

What will tomorrow bring ? Think we need some BR blue in there at some point..

Aha ! It's day 5 of the 12 trains of Christmas....

37109 on a rake of the brilliant Kernow JIAs. Loved weathering these.

I did fit a flashing tail lamp in one - in the hopper underneath. The wires rub on the wheels so currently it's a "no go" for running. Will need to rethink that one...

Very much looking forward to getting my hands on the poly bulks and treating them in a similar way.

Regards

Nick

Happy New Year, day 7 of 12

We really struggled to get these 20s consisted and then we really needed to adjust all the motor characteristics (which we didn't do for time reasons)... So....it's far from perfect.

There was an extra BR blue one to include as per the prototype working I saw in 2013 but that was a step toooooo far.

One of the weirdest workings of 2013 though, fun to recreate in OO !

Day 8....

Here's a recreation of a genuine test formation using some of the EWS mk2 stock and mentor.

The jubilee 67 is a repaint not the Hornby limited edition. Repaint not by me I hasten to add...

Coronations

Very nice, I wondered if it would be the song which we used to sing in the bar many years ago along the lines of

12 Royal Scots

11 Modified Halls

10 Super Ds

9 2-10-0s

8 Merchant Navys

7 V2s

6 Corinations

5 A4s

4 Black 5s

3 Flying Pigs

2 Jubilees and

A crap shot of a Dub Dee

I'll get my coat now and look forward to seeing what day 9 is :D

Day 9 of 12 and a change if era. The best era quite probably !

Yes, I need to get a chip fitted in the dummy power car ! And yes, we couldn't find a buffet for the mk2 rake !

Enjoy

Day 10...

70007 the current pet 70 on a large rake of IOAs.

Had fun weathering & loading these. Need to chew over the couplings - they flex and aren't that reliable running wise....

Day 10...

We were aiming for an 8-10 engine lash up.

Like the 20s not easy to do.in hindsight I should have turned the lights off on the trailing locos.

Needs modelling though as these moves are the "vogue"

Well, it's all over.

This has given me some insight into perhaps running a layout at a show.

You want interesting workings, but they've got to be believable - life can be mundane unit after unit can't it ?

There are also workings that you could recreate (like the 20 lash up) and you would think they were "made up"

Getting stock to run reliably can be a major issue too - they are just so variable in performance over the same piece of track.

So, onto the last video. A Wrexham & Shropshire test train before they launched comprising top & tail 67s, 3 mk3s (one being a sleeper). Implausible but actually real....

Enjoy 2014

Nick
