Account Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've recently been having problems with my account and I've messaged moderators explaining the problem but nothing is done.

I try using the forum and facilities as I normally would and encounter problems. Every time I try to post it comes up with the following

''You have been placed on moderator queue. This means that all content you submit will need to be approved by a moderator before it will be shown. More Details''

Simply clicking on ''More Details'' reveals

An error occurred

NO_PERMISSION

The post I written out then appears 1 to 2 days later which is irritating and extremely inconvenient to say the least.

The second problem is the Status facility for my profile which no longer functions and I am unable to view previous statuses or comments nor can I reply to others. When I try to read or try to view it comes up with the below

post-13630-0-76937300-1394253959_thumb.png

Is there a way to fix the above problems OR is there a way I can possibly just deactivate my account and simply like create a new one to solve the problem? (really don't want to though if possible) as I'm currently finding the forum very inconvenient and unusable. The latter would be regrettable since all my friends, messages and topics are stored on here but since I'm finding it unusable it could be the only solution to the problem, unless of course it can be fixed.

Searching for an explanation
Is the above some new fangled thing on the forum? But surely looking at the above something isn't right? Not very computer type minded... I couldn't find anything relating to this problem in the search facility (search seems to work fine though).
Is anyone else encountering these problems?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Reece

I've messaged moderators explaining the problem but nothing is done.

The only message you've sent me was a terse "Fix this please". I have already responded to status updates you've made explaining that your posts were being reviewed and checked before release as you had created multiple IDs to use the 'Disagree' button on someone's posts you were having a small war with.

In light of Andy's input, can I venture that any "problems" you're experiencing might be of your own making? There have been times when I've been a little too free and easy with the "Disagree" button when something has wound me up, but to register multiple accounts for the sole purpose of venting frustration is clearly going to be (1) noticed by admin and (2) acted upon. Why don't you message Admin to see if they'll tell you how long your moderated status will last for? You may get parole.

Hi,

If you responded to my status updates I am unable to view them because of the above. And I don't understand because I didn't make any ''Multiple IDS'' what ever that is. I reported a member in the past for offending me and stalking me (for sending me ill thought out offensive messages and posts and for viewing my profile every hour).

From what I can tell I've done nothing wrong but bring issues to your attention.

I sent you a message explaining the problems I've been having with a description and a screen shot.

Cheers, Reece

It must have been the other three people who were using your computer that day then.

Andy

I'm interested from the technical point of view how you know which computer messages come from. It may be that you wish to PM me with the answer, which is fine by me. I ask as you could be answering a problem we have at work.

Thanks

Phil

I once got blocked from a forum, the message I got when I tried to log on said my I.P. was banned. I changed my I.P. and was able to log in again and the forum administrator had no knowledge of why I had been blocked.

However most people post in a unique way and you soon get found out!

If you look at this Wikipedia article on IP addresses it should explain the "how" Phil - it is very common for forum hosting services to identify and report multiple user id's created by the same device (as identified by the IP address) to forum creators/administrators.

In certain cases, such as with shared home PC's, this can be entirely innocent as for a a site like ours it may be a parent & children all of whom like model railways but only have one computer in the house and want their own user accounts. If this is the case then an administrator may clarify the situation by personal contact to see everything is above board.

It is possible, if you are sufficiently tech savvy, to circumvent this basic system but it takes a significant amount of effort to do so and is not straightforward - however there are other tools to identify people attempting to circumvent user account verification.

Wouldn't a simple ip address lookup suffice in this case?

Only a static IP address is of any use. Most folk have a dynamic one. Most IP addresses can be obscured, though with some effort. There are ways of obtaining more detailed identity - but most of those can also be made anonymous. Other techniques employ some form of hacking .... which we all know is illegal without some form of court order or big brother. None of which for one moment do I suspect Andy or BRM having.

The simple fact is that most people do not make any effort to obscure their identity on the net. Most have no reason to be bothered.

I guess there may well be folk with multiple identities out there lying among all the dormant members with few or no posts. Certainly a few from when the database used to crash (remember those days?) or came back after a software upgrade to find their identity trashed/lost. But most members who have generated more than one ID have a good reason for doing so. Others gradually expose themselves by the content/nature of their posts. Most of us become pretty predictable after a while.

[Ed] just checked mine and I'm apparently in Aldershot, Hampshire on a static IP :D

[Ed2] Ooo look now I'm in Paris!

I don't understand. Sounds like some techno stuff to me. I find this highly confusing. I'm the sort of guy who would just buy a new computer because this one doesn't work or get it fixed by someone else. I just know how to use the basics of how to use it. I still use a piece of paper because I don't know how to use these fangled computer programs.
Am I'm being accused of something I didn't do or even know how to do?
All I'm asking for is a solution to my problem as this has been ongoing.

I just want to use the forum like any other member, updating my layout topic, replying to others, messages, statuses etc
In all honesty I just get the feeling of being disliked on here, one of my topics got deleted with no apparent explanation it just disappeared, very little replies etc, seem to get bullied by other members, misunderstood so on.

I disagree with part of the above as I have no idea what ''IDS'' is. And fail to understand what I've done wrong, as far as I know all I've ever done which seems to be wrong is bring an issue to the administrators attention. I'll acknowledge the part about I have had disagreements with others... I think everyone has.
I find this all very difficult to understand and confusing, as stated above I just want to use RMweb as normal.

Is there a date on which my account will return to normal? as I will just cease to use it until such time, I'm finding it unusable at current.

ID:

A form of identification, especially an ID card.

tr.v. ID'ed, ID'·ing, ID's
To check the identification of, especially in order to verify legal age; card: The bouncer ID'ed everyone who looked younger than 30

By IDs, I believe Andy means multiple RMWeb user accounts/names.
