Ben04uk
After checking my Coaching Stock of British Railways books by RCTS to see which ones lasted the longest, I'd be grateful if anyone can let me know which of the following ex Gresley Full Brakes that remained in services in the 1970s were of the individual panelling design (NOT the steel bodywork version): 11 15 105 106 143 144 145 162 70365 70373 70384 70390 70427 70432 70441 70445 70473 70481 70486 70500 70511 70513 70526 70530 70531 70532 70540 70543 70548 70591 70621 70635 70741 70751 70754 70755 70762 70765
RMweb Premium TimC Posted March 15, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 15, 2014 12-162 were steel skinned Thompson Full Brakes so they are out The rest by Diagram number are: 70365 D198 70373 D198 70384 D198 70390 D198 70427 D245 70432 D245 70441 D245 70445 D245 70473 D245 70481 D315 70486 D315 70500 D245 70511 D315 70513 D315 70526 D260 70530 D260 70531 D260 70532 D260 70540 D260 Steel 70543 D260 70548 D260 70591 D327 Deal Body Panels 70621 D327 Deal Body Panels 70635 D327 Deal Body Panels 70741 D260 70751 D245 70754 D245 70755 D245 70762 D245 70765 D245 According to Harris's LNER Coaches, D198 are steel bodied, D245 are teak panelled, D260 are teak or steel panelled (so I guess you need a photo!) and D315 are steel panelled. D327 are the Thompson Matchboard Full Brakes. However, I would want a photo to ensure that the coach was still panelled in the mid 1970s as you never really know what it had gone through during its life. Hopefully, I've got the list above correct!

EddieB
An example from diagram 260, here's teak panelled E70526E in express parcels service at Liverpool Street in July 1973. By that time it was in rail blue livery. Photo from a Kodak Instamatic.
