roythebus
Yes, I know Lille is in France, but didn't know whether to post this here, the France forum or prototype questions. On local news today, reports of an incident at Lille delaying Eurostar by 3 hours, Eurotunnel by 5 hours, and SE Javelin High Speed delayed too. Any idea what the incident was? ps it also closed part of the M20 due to the backlog of cars trying to access Eurotunnel.

roythebus
Merci! ITV News carried the story later on in English. Sad news for travellers following the disastrous day on the M26 yesterday too.
Oakydoke
TV news saying that following the incident at Lille earlier today, the problem in the tunnel was due to a Eurotunnel Shuttle train breaking down. Many trains cancelled and thousands still waiting at St. Pancras International and Gare du Nord, late in the evening. Live TV report from SPI on BBC News at 2115. A Eurostar spokesman gave a good statement to the femail reporter and successfully deflected her weak attempt to try and blame the delays on the company. Last train leaves at 2130 and the thousands who couldn't travel today will be able to re-book at a later date (tomorrow and Saturday almost completely fully booked) or will be able to get a full refund. No chance of travel for many then?
Fat Controller
Not a good day to travel; misery being compounded by Kent Police stopping staff bound for Eurotunnel at the Jct 12 roundabout, so they were arriving late. When I finished, we'd got the HGV timetable back, and the person doing the Tourist service was trying to sweet-talk people into working extra trips. E* had problems on Wednesday at one point with children on the line between Lille and Frethun. Doesn't bear thinking about..
roythebus
Well done then Brian. Seems like the Kent Police still don't have a clue then! Couldn't your staff get in via the A20 or service entrance?
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted April 18, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 18, 2014 Our initial plans would have been travelling on Eurostar last night but luckily (due to the Eurostar prices being very high now) we are flying for less than half the price. RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted April 18, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 18, 2014 Currently Eurostar seem to be ok according to my son who has just reported depatrure from PNO on the 15.02 to London.
Fat Controller
Well done then Brian. Seems like the Kent Police still don't have a clue then! Couldn't your staff get in via the A20 or service entrance? It was the A20 that was blocked, in the Jct 12 > Longport direction, by standing lorries; at least one colleague simply drove down the wrong side of the road with main beam on, and hazards flashing. I should add that the road is quite wide at this point, so relatively safe. There is an emergency entrance off the Jct 13 slip road, but this is intended for emergency vehicles only, and so is not normally staffed.
