Another level crossing crash - Malton

I wonder if the witness is describing train protection, ie detonators, after the initial incident?

All very sad for all concerned - yet again.

No level crossing called "Ivy Lea" in the sectional appendix only "Rillington", "High Scrampston", "Low Scrampston" or "Knapton" so not sure which of the crossings the collision occurred at - very sad for all involved.

Looks like another UWC accident, if it's where I think it is, it's a pretty straight section of line so the visibility isn't too bad.  If what the witness says is correct about a second train approaching at the time we are incredibly lucky to be reading about one fatality and not a major accident involving two trains and a car.

Might it be the farm crossing to the east of Rillington....?

Ivy Lea is the name of a farm in Scampston. From the photos of where the train ended up (travelling west) its looks like it was the crossing here https://www.google.co.uk/maps/search/low+more+YO17+8N/@54.1693461,-0.7009218,439m/data=!3m1!1e3

This appears to go to farm buildings in the middle of a former railway triangle where the line to Pickering left

Thanks - I've found the entry now in a box labelled "other crossings in this area"

Yes Beast - shown in Quail as 25m72ch which makes it  4m 60 ch east of Malton station and between Rillington AHB, on Low Moor Lane, and High Scampston AHB, on Outgang Road.  Appears to be just an ordinary looking occupation/accommodation crossing with what look like field type gates.  Photos suggest it has the standard signage although no sign of 'phones but they could easily be masked from the photographer by trees or other foliage.

Regrettably the sort of incident which shows just how easily a collision can occur in what at first sight looks to be an innocuous location where users would be well familiar with procedures - I await the RAIB Report with interest.

FWI stands for Fatalities and Weighted Injuries: 1 Fatality = 10 Major Injuries = 100 Minor Injuries.
