Pete 75C
I have searched on RMWeb for the info I need but nothing seems to tally with my actual wiring requirement, so forgive my question... Secondly, this is a move into DCC for the first time for me, up until now I've been a bit of a DC dinosaur... I've been asked to put together a simple 4mm end to end for an old friend. There are no slips involved and I'm ok with the principle of wiring electrofrog points. However, as you can see from the diagram, the plan calls for a Peco Code 75 short crossing. The exit top right goes to the fiddle yard, the other 3 exits all being to dead end sidings. Being a bit of a cheat and not particularly adept with a soldering iron, my first thought was to use the insulfrog version of the crossing but having read a lot on RMWeb about DCC shorts over this particular type of crossing, I've convinced myself that the electrofrog version would be a safer bet in the long run. Am I correct in that assumption or am I fretting over nothing? If electrofrog is the way to go, could anyone who knows more than me (that will be all of you then), kindly take the time to indicate feeds, breaks etc? I am a bit of a self-confessed wiring numpty and don't want to fall at the first hurdle with this one... Many thank, Pete.
Grovenor
With live frogs you can only run over one route through the crossing at a time, the frog polarities have to be changed to use the other route. your layout plan is ideal for this, you just have to control the points so only one of them can be set for the crossing at any time, eg by using a 3 position switch. Then all you need do is connect the left hand frog of the diamond to the frog of the turnout on the right, and the right hand frog to the frog of the turnout to the left. Changing the points will then set up the diamond polarity as well. Keith
Pete 75C
Amazingly that makes sense! Many thanks for your time Keith. Since posting the original question, I'd been looking at DCC reversers and frog juicers to make life easier, but that would appear to be unnecessary. Pete.
