RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 7, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2014 I built this van about 12 years ago and I have now got round to finishing it (quite quick for me!), it's an ABS kit for an LMS van and underneath I have written D1892, I have looked through my LMS wagons books and can't find it. It has a 9' wheelbase and is vacuum fitted. Please help! thanks.
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted September 7, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2014 D1892 was an open 5 plank, like the old Airfix tooling I think. The van is similar to D1664, which lasted as departmentals until about the 1990s, but they had some end strapping and different corner plates. There are some on Paul Bartlett's photos but I can't seem to post a link at the moment.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 7, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2014 Well I wonder why I would write that number on it? I looked through all the vans in the LMS wagons book and I found nothing like it. The puzzle continues...

Spitfire2865
The sides look like diag1664 while the ends are a mystery.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 7, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2014 I've done a bit more studying and looking up the D1664 suggested by Spitfire it seems to be the nearest to that but it is missing the end X strapping. Cambrian do it as a kit so I have it infront of me. Aside from the x strapping missing, they look extremely similar.
RMweb Premium kevinlms Posted September 7, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 7, 2014 The description here suggests that they were unfitted and so should be grey. http://www.parksidedundas.co.uk/acatalog/LONDON_MIDLAND___SCOTTISH_RAILWAYS.html Or here http://cambrianmodels.co.uk/lmswagons.html for the 4mm versions, but the photos annoyingly don't show the ends. It would seem to be more like a D1676, which again are unfitted. But perhaps a D1885 Fish Van, to justify the colour of your model?
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted September 7, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2014 There were quite a few wooden ended Vac fitted 9ft wagons about, but I can't find one with the correct end planking. http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/lmsvan/h3C632D69#h2991699e
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted September 7, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2014 Perhaps a 'Typo' Paul. I have noticed a reference to a D1982 Fish Van.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 7, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2014 Still certain it's an incorrect D1664, some of them were vac fitted. The D1676 were end and roof ventilated and I think most early fish vans were covered with vents and louvres.
