Adding .stl file output to older copies of AutoCAD

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of the Sycode products or company?

They claim a plug-in for AutoCAD to export 3D files as.st filesl  But their only news page I found so far, stops at 2010. So I'm a bit concerned their stuff might be out of date.

I think exporting STL file formats is as far as AutoCAD goes
- viz, AutoCAD will not Import an STL file format.

I'm OK with just exporting .stl files.  It's just my personal earlier copy of AutoCAD doesn't have that capability unless I can find a 3rd party conversion tool.  And upgrading AutoCad is about the same cost as buying a 2yr old used car.

I'm not sure what formats your autocad will export in, but Meshlab http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/ has many format choices. It may be you have to go in two or more hops,  find something that will go from, say, dwg to vrml, then to stl.

ps - you'll have fun trying to fix up the meshes, I expect.

If your autocad is that old I think you'll find that Sycode won't work for you.  Sycode are only claiming to work with autocad 2007 onwards.  Autocad 2002 has stl output via File export.  To get a good resolution you need to set FACETRES=10.
