One of those "D'oh!" moments.....

I've been making a bit of progress with equipping some of my O scale locos with DCC sound.

Yesterday afternoon I was doing a bit of CV tweaking, playing with the reverb for the horn on a Soundtraxx Tsunami. All of a sudden, the horn seemed to start blowing all by itself :O I had a quick panic, staring at the NCE Powercab & wondering what on earth was wrong. :(

.... took me a few moments to realise it was my mobile phone going off.... my ringtone is an almost identical airhorn download.... :locomotive:

D'oh!!! :blush:

I've done something very much along the same lines before, my text alert is a GP35 horn and i have one on my layout so when my phone went off, i thought my regular DC locos had magically jumped to DCC sound. Near on (Insert profanity here) myself when it went off aswell because of how loud it was! :jester:

I find that “D’oh!” moments preferable to “Oh, Sh!t!” moments by quite a long way......

Real US modelers get lost a lot - you come across their remains on the outskirts of Horseshoe Curve Park and other places of interest

Best, Pete.

I spent ages once trying to sort out a bit of dodgy track at one spot that kept derailing.

I thought if I laid my head on the board and looked along the track I could see exactly what was happening.

A great idea - but it kept shorting out for some reason.

After about 10 minutes I realised it was the metal frame of my glasses across the track that was causing the short.

Yep, only yesterday had an email conversation with a friend in Nebraska that I hope to meet up with early next year and we we ralking about 'cell phones'!!

And more years ago than I would like to acknowlwdge I can remember quietly smirking to myself in a fast food joint in San Francisco as your namesake, Mr D, remonstrated with a somewhat confused server;

"Why have you given me crisps with my burger when I asked for chips?"

Truly a classic 'two countries divided by a common language' moment!

I had that on one layout which had worked fine for some years till the PCB kept coming away from the baseboard so I dirlled it either side of the rails and pinned it. Result was a short which took some time to figure out until I remembered that there were a couple of PCB sleepers below the top one that hadnt had the gap in the copper cut in them!!

Fortunately I'm trilingual. I can butcher English, American, and Canadian.

Cell v mobile goes way back to the days when the olde worlde general service mobile phones were still around. These were basically radio phones that could reach a single mast. All inbound and outbound calls were handled by an operator. Cell was coined as a short cut for cellular which distinguished the new fangled gizmos that could move between towers (cells) and call in and out directly.
