Ian Kirk
Hi, There was a 4mm drawing of one of these on p84 of February 1977 Railway modeller. This is by W D Stewart and I think that the GSWR Assn. drawings are his but IIRC in 7mm . Many years ago a friend of mine converted one out of the Sutherland Casters Highland 0-6-4T. Peter Drummond had just designed these before moving from the Highland to the Sou. West and I believe that the slightly shorter 0-6-2T was very similar. Not that that helps much now as having moved through a few owners I think that these kits are now unobtainable. best wishes, Ian
Davey
Mercian Models do a 4mm kit for a G&SWR Drummond 0-6-2T priced at £79.50, motor and wheels extra.
andytrains
The GSWR Society sell drawings, the one you need is shown on their site as, ref. L16, 0-6-2T, Class 45, (1 side 6 ends 5 plans). Funnily enough I picked up a model of this loco at Expo EM North over the weekend. It is built and runs well it is EM gauge. I presume it is a Mercian kit as it is mainly etched brass. From Mercians site they do the class 45, ref HS3, and also the latter version of it, class 1, ref HS4, which was built by Whitelegg and had detail differences such as larger tanks and different cab cut out shape. Londontram
Hard one that Andy knowing how you think I've had a good look at any thing RTR that might be a starting point both chassis and body wise but have drawn a blank the good thing about it is its a very simple looking loco to scratch build with its flat sided tanks, cab and bunkers but I cant think of a suitable chassis that has 5ft (20mm) wheels. I did think turning a LNER K3 or Southern N class 2-6-0 chassis around but there wheels are 5ft6in so would be 2mm to big but will keep thinking even the LNER N2 has 5ft 81/2in wheels too. One thought though there might be a chimney and dome amongst the lot you got the other day you could use. Steve
RMweb Premium uax6 Posted September 15, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 15, 2014 Well Ian, I happen to have a spare(!) Sutherland HR 0-6-4T which I thought about cutting down. But having got some spare T9 boliers I was wondering if I could actually scratchbuild one. It's not many parts. I'll ask a friend if I can borrow that issue of the RM. Steve, it does in fact appear that there is a safety-valve bonnet in that lot which is perfect! When I get around to it, I'll put the build on the bottom of this thread. Glad you like it and I'm pleased that it's gone to a good home - I built it from an original TMD kit, which is now in the Mercian Models range.
