Peter Kazmierczak
Today marks one of the top ten anniversaries (in my opinion) in the railway calendar. 38 years ago in 1976, this day marked the introduction of the start of 125mph HST train services in Britain. The rest, as they say, is history. Here we see the first power car of the production batch, 43002, still busy at work.
Guest Belgian
I have to agree, despite being a steam man: no other trains have remained in top-line service for so long. Does anyone have any idea of how many miles each - or any - power car or coach has worked? JE

RMweb Gold Maltazer Posted October 4, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 4, 2014 38 years later and they're still the most comfortable trains on the network. So much for progress.
Michael Delamar
Its hard to quantify mileage and such figures when they are a bit like triggers broom, but it shows just how good the actual design of them was.
