DavidB-AU
For those who haven't yet seen it, Wuiske Promotions unveiled a RTR QR 1550 class at the Ipswich show last weekend. The 1550 has never been made available before, even as a kit. The models will be available in both HOn3½ (12mm) and HO (16.5mm) gauges with 8 running numbers accross three versions (high nose original QR livery, driver only original QR livery, driver only corporate QR livery) to suit modellers from 1973-2006 eras. The 1550 locomotives will feature dual brass flywheels, scale Kadee couplers, directional lighting, working marker lights and number boards and will be DCC ready with a standard 8 pin plug. The models are due to be released in the first quarter of 2015. 1st engineering prototypes. Original high nose, 16.5mm gauge bogies. DOO low nose, 12mm gauge bogies. The projected price is an astonishing $295. By way of comparison, the Hollywood mech for one of their kits is $270. Cheers David

Allegheny1600
Go on John, you know you want to! Yep! I do indeed! Been looking at my copy of "Locomotives of Australia" by Leon Oberg (Very fortunately picked up at Ian Allen bookshop in Manchester in 2008!), drooling over YouTube and doing plenty of plotting! Rather captivated by by the "narrow gauge" look with big heavy diesels running on it! I think I'm falling for it! D'oh! Cheers, John.
Ozexpatriate
I have many memories of these noisy beasts with their smelly black clag. The models really capture the look. Thanks for sharing them.
DavidB-AU
Having seen the model up close and seen how it runs, it is very tempting to take the plunge into QR narrow gauge. Unfortunately something else would have to give. Cheers David

It has tempted me so many times to model the current scene, likely somewhere on the Southern Highlands line, but North of Picton so I can get away with having the RTM stock pass through.... There I go again!

SRman
I well remember the first few 1550s around the Brisbane suburban area as they were noisy beasts (up to 1555, from memory). After that, they must have fitted bigger silencers on new production as all subsequent 1550/2400 class locos were relatively tame sounding. The model looks very good from the pre-production photos. Quite convinced now matey, thanks! An initial enquiry has been sent to Wuiske Models but I'll probably just be able to order direct from their website, may try it out first by getting a 1600 class! I like the idea of a bit of RTR to get me going but mainly kit-building so I have something very different to most folk 'up here'! Having great fun doing loads of research on what's what in Queensland, just loving it! Cheers, John.
DavidB-AU
If you're after a QR kit you might look at the 1720. They often ran in multiple with the 1550 and later GMs. Cheers David

RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted December 6, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 6, 2014 Well done to Wuiske for creating an RTR QR model, hopefully it will get a few more local Modellers into the hobby and these would have application on a few overseas railways that also received this GM export. It's interesting to see this come out but there are quite a few detailing issues that I can see off the top of my head, the most significant one is the roof, the rounded roof modelled was only good from 1550 for the first 5 or 6, after that they went to having a flat section at the top of the curve so the cab aerial was still in gauge. The number one on the cab side should be sans serif (see the 1 on the prototype pic of A G Lee) except for a couple of very late blue examples, the front of the short hood on most of the early 1550s did not have the a/c vents, this was typically only fitted to ones built under coal line contract or retrofitted later in life, and the reflective QR stickers on the side were a very late addition and I'm not sure if there were many 1550s in original blue that would've received them. Still, someone may have a shot of the locos in this condition, but it perhaps would've been better to create something a bit more generic. They were never a favourite of mine until one evening riding home on a stopping suburban with 1551. Such a noisy beast which then made me search out those and the early series 2100s for their noise making capabilities. It will be good to see these come out and I may even be tempted to buy one, just to support the venture and to see if it can be modified to represent some of my prototype pics. QRModeller
1558 arrived last week, after making the journey down the Jandowae branch to Dalby, then along the Western Line to Brissie! Here it is with a short train of 3 QLX wagons, passing through Ironingboardland Matt.
DavidB-AU
I ordered one today. I had to wait for another batch of 1559 high nose to arrive. I want to renumber it to the class leader because I had a cab ride in the prototype back in 1992. Cheers David
