BritishModelRail
Hello, I was running my Roco BR 143 and it smelt of burning so I stopped it. I then put it on again and some smoke came from it. The loco had no body on it and there is no signs of any damage but there is no signs of action when its on the track. I know the motor works as I took it off and connected the controller straight to it, Any ideas? Thanks
jdp298
Well by elimination it's something either on the chassis or the tracks. Most controllers have a safety cut-out so it's possible this isn't a short but a sticky transmission which is stalling the motor, making an effective short, and warming up something in the electrical path; probbaly grease and dust on the commutators. Give the chassis a scrub, quite literally. Take it apart as much as you can and trace the electricity and clean everything. Then make sure it's free to run and you'll probably end up ok. It's not like you're dealing with a duff design, we know it works in original condition.
BritishModelRail
Thanks for the reply, I have gotten my answer, it turns out that it was an inductor that smoke and members on another forum said to replace if with wire and it is now running again
