hayfield
When I make or reply to a post I would like to leave a link to my workbench but I don't know how to do it. I have looked for instructions on how to do but could not find any. As you can see from the bottom of this thread I have added a link (via my signature page) but cannot change the description without removing the link. How do you do it please Thanks
RMweb Premium Ian J. Posted November 2, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 2, 2014 When you put a link in, it will always be the full link. On RMweb, I don't believe you can have a link with a different text to the link itself. It's been set that way so users can see the real link itself clearly. So every time you try to change that, you'll delete the entire link and just replace it the same way.
hayfield
Ian Thanks perhaps I am not asking the correct question A few members have My workbench, or layout, not http://www.rmweb.co....nout-workbench/ so when you click on the word it automatically sends you to it without www.etc
'CHARD
Hmmm.... I think you might need to edit the hyperlink. Certainly if you are working in MS Word, and you wish to have a clickable term or phrase in the body text, you can right click the hyperlink and you have an option to edit it to say whatever you want - usually so it becomes a part of the text without breaking up the flow. However, as Ian J says, this feature may be disabled on RMWeb.
Graham Walters
You need to tell the system that you want hypertext not the link, you do this by telling it that the URL is the destination and the text is clickable. This will solve the problem My workbench
buffalo
Good grief, how obscure can you get? Just highlight the required text and click on the icon that looks like chain links. A dialog box pops up and you then paste the URL into that. Nick
Shadow
If you do the following it seems to work ok 1. type the title/text that you want to see at the end i.e. "My Model" 2. highlight that text, 3. Clink on the link button at the top of the editor 4. Add your link as required 5. The text should now be underlined and set up as a link. "My Model", edit Buffalo beat me too it

RMweb Premium Ian J. Posted November 3, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 3, 2014 Ian Thanks perhaps I am not asking the correct question A few members have My workbench, or layout, not http://www.rmweb.co....nout-workbench/ so when you click on the word it automatically sends you to it without www.etc I had difficulty in getting alternative text to work, which was why I had presumed it wasn't possible. Others in their posts above have proven it is possible here, many thanks to them. I think part of the problem is that when a user clicks on the link button in the toolbar for the message box, there is not text box for filling in the alternative text for the hyperlink:
RMweb Premium Ian J. Posted November 3, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 3, 2014 This is where the confusion lies What I would like is a link to my workbench set up automatically each time I make a post under my signature Do the edit in your signature. I've just changed mine to use alternate text. I typed in the text I wanted - 'My Photos' - then highlighted that text, clicked on the link button in the toolbar (the chain with a small white cross in a green spot), entered the url, then click OK, and it makes the text the hyperlink. hayfield
Tried again edit I must be missing something Written Workbench, highlighted it, then clicked on link button. Link box came up, copied in the http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/57911-hayfields-turnout-workbench/ in the URL, pressed OK. and as you can see not happened
Shadow
Just added a link to my signature, all worked ok! Using chrome if that makes a difference. (Shouldn't, but you never know these days!)
Shadow
Another way is to go back into your signature, and then you can edit the title of the link. i.e. click on centre of underlined/linked text, edit to say what you want, then save changes. Be aware though, that if you start the editing at the beginning or end it doesn't always work. I usually start in the middle, type what I want, then remove the characters at either end. A pain, but it does work.
