Mackieman321
Hello, This is my first post on rmweb. My names mark and I am currently building up a small stockist of great eastern emus. Got my first class 309 last year from Britannia Pacific models and eventually I am looking to get a full length Clacton train made up of the three units. The bit that's troubling me at the moment is the griddle coach. I have been looking at class 309 pictures and cannot find them anywhere. I have seen some griddle cars online but I'm not sure if these were connected up to the 309s. Have found a kit of one of these coaches on the footplate of Kidderminster's site and was wondering if that should do the trick? Has anyone got some pictures of these griddle coaches? I saw a 309 model at a show and yeh I bought it but was stumped by a restaurant first mk1 that had a ge number?? Was near it. Think it was a rf as it was. Kitchen/half seating? Could one of them be used? Mark
giz
As far as I am aware the 309 griddles were unique to those sets. There were other griddle cars but they were loco hauled and if you are refering to the Southern Pride kit on Footplate's site that is one of the loco hauled ones. If you PM me I may be able to help with a drawing of the 309s.
Andy Reichert
IIRC, DC Kits had 309's in both long and short configurations. Later cab ends, but presumably those could be doctored into original form. I loved seeing those in maroon. Andy
Mackieman321
Thanks guys for the replies. @andy I bought my dad a maroon one for Christmas last year and myself a blue and grey one (pre refurb) have to say the maroon looks lovely! This badly beat up one I got yesterday is maroon but erm needs some TLC it's not bad but some improvements here and there should do the trick

Titan
This is a project that i have got on the to do list, although I only have enough space for a six car set, it will be a two car + 4 car with griddle. Unfortunately photos are somewhat hard to come by, this is the best I have found: You can also find the diagram here, BR. 426 approximately page 18: http://www.barrowmoremrg.co.uk/BRBDocuments/BREMUDiagramsIssue.pdf (With thanks to Clive Mortimore) Unless anyone has any more that may be all that there is to go on! kintbury jon
A quick search also shows that Worsley Works produces etched sides for the 309 in N including a buffet set. They may be able to send you a photo of the sides.

Xerces Fobe2
One Class 309 had a catering coach that was formally in a Class 123 Swindon DMU I think this was as a result of the Griddle Car in the Class 309 being written off.
Mackieman321
They also do them in 4mm:http://www.worsleyworks.co.uk/4mm/4mm_BR.htm Cheers have enquired about it to them. I did have a brainwave during the email to see if hey would produce another favourite of mine the class 306 - these are gold dust! I am currently trying to build an early maroon 4-car set in N/2mm using the Worsley Works etches and haven't been able to find any decent side images or info for this aspect so far. thanks, Izzy

giz
Oh right? Do you have a unit number at all - would make a interesting addition It was set 616. DMU coach 59831 became 69108 replacing 69105 which was withdrawn.

Edit: Do you have Modern Locomotives Illustrated 183? There are some useful photos in there. Thanks. I haven't, but I'll keep my eye open for it. The problem is that most shots are quite naturally mostly end-on 3/4 view types. Even finding roof detail has proved more of a challenge than I anticipated. Rivercider
Not as close as the shot posted by Titan, is this set 613 again? https://www.flickr.com/photos/86020500@N06/10923364755/in/photolist-d6XdR9-d6Rqv9-d6XkWq-hDg6M6-ddCdEY-d6oqCs-njghJz-ddCxW3-dRPq1X-hZnjmw-dmhZAp cheers
JoshHamilton
Just read this, I know it's very old! The AM9's were classed in 3 batches. /1, /2 & /3 respectively. /1's were the 2 car sets. /2's were the 'griddle' sets /3's were standard 4 coach sets. Hope that helps. Are the kits any good?
