RSS Fetcher
It's Wednesday - and I actually found myself with a couple of spare hours.. So I thought I'd build the wagon turntable giving access to the tannery... Take a piece of 080" plastikard, scribe a circle to the relevant diameter (I used 80mm/20ft), and open out the centre-pop hole (this will become the mounting point) and draw in centre-lines at rightangles.. I then printed off a section of straight track in Templot on adhesive paper, cut two 80mm lengths from it, took out centre 'inspection panels' and laid them on the plasticard - lining up the previously-drawn centrelines with the centreline on the printout. Seemples Following in the footsteps of Brunel, I then laid 7mm sleeper strip baulk-fashion along the rail lines - which were then CAREFULLY tinned (didn't want too much heat transferring to the plastikard)! Using jigs from EMGS the first pair of rails were laid - Then the second set at rightangles - obviously these had to be cut to the various lengths concerned, allowing for the flangeway - Using a slitting cutter I then cut the other set of flangeways, and an isolation gap in one set of rails (only one line needs to be powered on this layout). Final job was to inlay the track with 2mm 'Depron' - the outer edges of the quadrants nee a bit of support from sleeper-strip offcuts) I'll leave scribing the surface effect until the unit is almost ready to go in - it will be either planked or tarmac'd. I suspect planked tho' as the foam is so easy to scribe! All in all about two hours work. All I need to do now is work out the under-baseboard gubbins. I'm thinking of a simple 'Meccano-type' hand-crank. BFN Ian Attached thumbnail(s) View the full article
