Can't Access RMWeb on Google Chrome

Recommended Posts

Help! I'm getting the following message:

Error 413 request entity too large

Guru meditation

XID: 34324845

Varnish cache server

What do I do please? (clever son on nights this week). Do I have to "clear the cache" which I have seen advised before?  If so, how do I go about it?

Thanks

Ed

I've seen this with Firefox (33.1) a couple of times in the last month. Each time I checked the cookies and found a very large number from RMweb named OAVARS[...]. They are supposed to be valid only to the end of a session, but as I rarely logout, the numbers may be increasing over time. If so then the size of the request including all the cookies may well be too large.

Deleting all RMweb cookies allowed me to login again and the problem went away for a few weeks.

It's an issue with the back-end server. According to the headers of the page, your server is using Varnish (a common caching system designed to speed up websites), and that's a Varnish error message. If it keeps on happening, have a word with your web hosts.

(Actually, Varnish "borrowed" the error message from the original Commodore Amiga home computer, which displayed that error in the event of one of it's fairly frequent crashes).

This happened to me last week, I contacted Andy and he told me to clear the cache which sorted the problem for a little while but I did not clear it sufficiently the first time and had to do it again. I was advised by another RMweb member to try a different domain which I did and everything seems to be OK on Firefox so I'm using that now instead of Google Chrome.

I still don't know what "clear the cache" means, nor how to do it.  Clever son has been round and thinks he has sorted it.  Apparently I had opened a Chrome extension to play cards and it wasn't shutting down if that makes sense to you? I now play cards on an official Microsoft thingy.

Thanks for the help.

To be honest it isn't that Ed which will have caused it. It's the way the ad-serving software is creating cookies.

A better fix is to go to your settings in Chrome: Settings > Show Advanced Settings > Privacy - Content Settings - Cookies - All cookies and site data  ..... Enter rmweb into the Search box and select www.rmweb.co.uk from the list and click X next to the list of cookies.

Thanks Andy, I've done the same. Got rid of 88 cookies. :O

Thanks for that Andy. I've been meaning to check what to do about that, as I've had the same 413 error coming up for the last couple of months. Only 72 cookies removed, not that bad!

Hi All,

I've just had the same message as the OP (I think!),

"Error 413 Request Entity Too Large
Request Entity Too Large
Guru Meditation:
XID: 2133053729

Varnish cache server"

Only I was on the latest version of Firefox! It started happening a week or so ago, I cleared all the cookies on my computer and presently, it all worked ok again. Then yesterday, same thing again which was rather frustrating, kept checking Twitter and no sign of a complete outage so was bemused.

Thankfully I still have Windows explorer and was able to access this topic from there where I discovered Andy Y's advice about deleting cookies on the web browser, did that and I'm back! (with Firefox).

Many thanks from me, great service! Posting this for information only, whether it's useful or not I don't know.

Cheers,

John E.
