RBAGE
Hello All, I'm building a layout which will be used for a number of railway era's. One of these period will be the transition from BR green diesels to the corporate blue era before the advent of TOPS classification and numbering. I have a number blue TOPS models which I am in the process of renumbering and hopefully weathering to the condition of specific locos at the time. Can anyone recommend a web site where I could find a reasonable selection of pre-TOPS blue diesels to use as actual subjects? Preferably with a good smattering of locos allocated to the north east of England. Hope you can help. Bob

Rivercider
Have you looked at Flickr? The group 'BR Diesels in the 1960s' has some views, you will have to search through the b&w ones though. here are a couple https://www.flickr.com/photos/68861278@N03/8287612452/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/barkingbill/2138851724/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/23974101@N07/5624545793/ cheers
Fat Controller
Have a look through Ernie Brack's site, though prepare to be distracted... https://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/sets/ He was (and is) based in the North-East, so there should be at least a few useful shots. hmrspaul
There are just a few scattered through the loco collections in this http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/borneo2014/e3af6db2c but I don't think much if anything is for the North East. This link is excellent. I'm looking for pre-TOPS class 20's at the moment and there's plenty to look at. From your link I've finalised running numbers and headcodes for 2 later production locos I have. Regards, Bob
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted November 15, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 15, 2014 Excellent! Were there any NE locos in the later production batch other than the D83xx series? Seem to remember they were York based in the late 60s. Cheers Phil
robertcwp
Some 20s remained green until the TOPS era. Some images on my Flickr site: https://www.flickr.com/photos/robertcwp/ 8158_Crewe_30-5-72 by robertcwp, on Flickr 8009_Toton by robertcwp, on Flickr
RBAGE
Nice images Robert. I have D8158 with small yellow end. Maybe I should paint the ends full yellow. The headcode looks a bit suspect. Phil, D8310 - D8315 were allocated new to Thornaby in 1967. I'm assuming these would have been painted blue from new. Nothing further north. My headcode 20's are green so I've gone for Toton locos and used a bit of licence. Assuming mineral traffic from the Durham coalfield. A bit tenuous but I'm not in the mood for a total repaint. I have 5 others which are all disc headcodes. 4 of them will be Gateshead locos. The 5th will be Scottish. Thanks for the help. Bob
