travelintrev
First one ( and the only one I can date) 4606 bringing in the empty stock for the down Cambrian Coast Express 20th June 1964. Unidentified DMU ( which appears to be in Blue & green livery. ) GN mainline between the tunnels at Welwyn North. Great Missenden (Bucks) Signal box 76025 shunting in Gt Missenden yard. 48600 at Stamford. If anyone can enhance these photos, please feel free to have a go. Trev. bike2steam
Mmm, I'm puzzled, how would 76025 end up shunting in Gt., Missenden yard. 76035 yes, but 76025 ( a Bomo loco) I'm intrigued, and yes the number does look like 76025. But that scene at Stamford lends itself to a good model.

Fat Controller
Is the last photo at Stockport, perhaps at the south end of the viaduct?
great central
Is the last photo at Stockport, perhaps at the south end of the viaduct? Reckon so, it still looks pretty much the same, even the track layout.
LMS2968
The first shot is one of the Mersey / Wirral emu's. apparently bound for West Kirby.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted November 25, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 25, 2014 Is the last photo at Stockport, perhaps at the south end of the viaduct? Definitely. 34019 certainly appears to be at Oxford, and presumably about to come off the northbound 'Pines'
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted November 25, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 25, 2014 The first shot is one of the Mersey / Wirral emu's. apparently bound for West Kirby. Indeed - it's just outside West Kirby station
eastwestdivide
... If anyone can enhance these photos, please feel free to have a go. Well I like a challenge, so here's the best I could do with a very pale looking one from the first lot. Tinkered with contrast and levels, converted to greyscale, but didn't do anything with all the flecks. Not really much to work on - unless you have any better quality scans. I'm not even convinced it's better than the original!
lmsforever
Nice shot of Great Missenden signal box, mate of mine worked the box for a while until Marylebone centre came in and went there,he ended up working part time on the Aylesbury Risboro shuttle until he was forcibly retired! Pacific231G
Definitely. 34019 certainly appears to be at Oxford, and presumably about to come off the northbound 'Pines' The 34019 photos has brought on a big wave of nostalgia. I spent many happy hours watching northbound Castles and Halls pulling out of Oxford from that exact same spot. I annoyed my school friends by pointedly not writing down their numbers but I just wanted to experience the sight, sound and smells that I knew would soon be gone forever (thankfully not entirely as preservation saved far more than any of us dreamed possible) Ocasionally pocket money would run to a day return to Kingham, Banbury or even Reading which meant a trip on the southbound Pines or one of the Saturdays Only to Reading West and a trolleybus to Reading General and the train home. ISTR that the Bulleids lasted a bit longer than the WR steam at Oxford which was replaced by the hated Hymeks but they invariably seemed to slip like crazy while taking up trains towards the S. Coast. The southbound Pines was notorious for late running when it moved to Oxford from the S&D, I think because there had just been so many places and loco changes where something could go wrong at a time when loco failures were all too common "The Pines Express is ninety- nine oh minutes late" was not an uncommon station announcement at Oxford!! Thank you for these Trevor- They're very much appreciated
travelintrev
Thanks for the kind comments so far. Unfortunately the prints themselves are not very good. The Oxford trip was a bit of an adventure for us (just out side of our comfortable there and back in the day cycle range about 60 mile e/w - though Dad called us wimps for not cycling - "in my day........" etc! ) Anyway train to Beford (Midland) walk to Bedford (St. Johns??- LNWR) to Oxford -- we did manage to "bunk the shed" but not sure were those photos are) At that time I'm pretty sure that was about as close a steam got to us. For tonight though couple of industrials from Stewarts & Lloyds at Corby. Seem to remember it was a frosty day to ride up the A6....bunked the loco shed , asked the foreman (OK bribed him with a couple of packs of Players) if we could have any works plates or other souvenirs. Take the bl00dy loco he said ! Anyway two work plates headed south that afternoon in out saddle bags. Tomorrow - couple from the West Country. Trev. travelintrev
Well as promised a couple from the West Country. Barnstable (Junction) -probably June- 1968, and an unknown location in the 193? 's (?) taken by my late father or his cousin. cant quite make out the number - but I'm sure some GWR expert will give chapter & verse! (please) Thats yer lot for now, Trev. Tim V
First one looks more like Taunton.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted November 27, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 27, 2014 The top one is very definitely Taunton, taken from the former loco depot yard looking towards the mainlines with the upper part of West Station signalbox clearly visible, probably mid 1970s. The lower one has a 'Hall' in post-war livery so late 1940s or possibly very early 1950s.
travelintrev
Thanks Guys, As first photo has been identified as Taunton - that photo would have been taken late 1977 /8 /9. As I only started working out of Bristol then . Di often go to carry out repair on OTM machines that used the old wheel drop shop at Taunton loco as a work shop.
