johnarcher
I'm considering an RT models Manning Wardle kit (class I or K). Has any one any comments on that kit, does it go together well? I have made some etched kits (as in the picture left), but it seems to me that the Manning would be a bit trickier than a side tank to get a motor and gearbox in, without it showing in unseemly places. Either a small motor vertical in the firebox, or the dodge of the boiler bottom being part of the chassis as a motor mount, with a bigger motor horizontal in the boiler? Can anyone give any advice, or suggest a drive configuration they have used succesfully?
garethashenden
I've built one, very happy with how it went together. Everything fit where it was supposed to. RT Models recommend a High Level gearbox with a small motor mounted in the firebox. That's what it was designed for and fits without cutting into the boiler. The boiler is a whitemetal casting so the firebox is your only real option.

garethashenden
The recommended ones are a Mashima 1015 and High Lever RoadRunner Compact +. The kit I built was for someone else and I used the bits he supplied although I think that's what it was.

Cheers Andreas thanks for the offer, if you could do one shot of the boiler & saddle tank bits that would be helpful, but don't go to any great trouble, I can sort it out when I get the thing. Thanks again

avonside1563
Had a quick look at the Manning yesterday at Warley and a quick chat to Richard who managed to save me £100 by dint of having sold the last of his postwar 100hp sentinels! If you have any worries or problems about the kit do contact him as he's keen to make sure that anyone who buys something of his are happy and have no problems. 0_gauge_novice
Hi John thanks for the offer, if you could do one shot of the boiler & saddle tank bits that would be helpful, but don't go to any great trouble, I can sort it out when I get the thing. I hope the image helps. It is the fret of the saddle tank and the castings for the boiler. The boilerbarrel can be seen. The boiler backhead is cast brass. As mentioned before the recommended GB and motor are the Road Runner Compact + with a mashima 1015, which can be seen also in the picture. Please if you start the loco start a thread...would be interested. Regards Andreas
